If drugs were legal, dude would have been a super addict, instead of a regular one.
IDK, homeboy likely would've OD'd a lot sooner than he did and not had the chance to frick up so many lives in the process by that logic.

Have you ever had to deal with a drug addict? I guessing no. I grew up on a farm - cousin was a drug addict. He literally ruined every single life he came in contact with then overdosed. His Mom is still paying the price for his drug addiction. Maybe most people on here are young and naive. If you've ever been around drug addicts - you might have a different opinion about legalizing the hard stuff.
If drugs were legal he probably wouldn't have ruined every single life he came in contact with because drugs would be cheap and he wouldn't have to beg, borrow and steal to get them. Also, if the government spent even 1/10th if what they spend on the war on drugs on rehab anyone could have free rehab.

wow, so naive. and tell me what insurance plan will cover that? Wait! we have people who need dialysis, eye surgery, orthoscopic surgery, hernias, uninsured diabetics, etc ad nauseum... but hey, let's use medical resources to let a drug addict sit around in the doctor's office and get high.
I'm not for that, but you should be. Was just pointing out something that would work to keep people from dying of overdose better than keeping drugs illegal (which have done NOTHING to quell drug use or crime)

what about huffing paint and freon?

More room for the rest of us.

So we are to keep drugs illegal...to mollify drug dealers because without that, they would have nothing else to do?
We already do that with welfare

yep but you can't walk into a shop and buy freon without a HVAC license

See what I did there? I lifted part of your post instead of the whole thing so it looked like we disagreed, when in fact we agreed.

The Taliban had eradicated opium production in that area prior to our invasion.
It was not eradicated but greatly limited. We now allow production, on a somewhat limited scale, so that the people have a means to generate income. Isn't it funny that after our initial surge we had soldiers guarding poppy fields that would produce much product that would come back here while we paid the DEA and other agencies to prevent such product from entering the country.

Briefly explain to me the economics of how heroin will be "cheaper" if legalized?
How "cheap" is pot in Colorado right now, versus what I'd currently pay for it on the street in New Orleans?

I was just arguing against his point that keeping drugs illegal will stop people from dying from these dangers. It was just theoretical.

I stated a possible outcome.
Sure...but an outcome no reasonable person would even consider as part of this argument.

My cousin sucked the freon out of my uncles A/C unit for 2 years. Unc knew something was up when he had to replace the condenser twice in that span.
If drugs were legal my unc wouldn't have been out over $10k for new A/C units.
also a/c store down the road wouldn't have gotten burglarized and cousin wouldn't have spent 6 months locked up.

Very true. Basically extortion we pay to keep our cities from burning.

It's cheaper in Colorado than in New Orleans
