How does one read and interpret the hodograph?

It shows you wind speed (how far out from the center) and wind direction (location around the center) for different heights in the lower atmosphere.

Typically a sickle shape with a big hook to the right is seen as most conducive to tornado producing supercells.

I'm glad it's March with the dynamics at play. The shear profile and low level turning is tremendous but you want to know a key difference between April 2011 and something like this? Dew points are a good 7-8 degrees lower across the board.

Should be a prolific March event though, per the moderate risk over a huge area.

I don’t know, it’s humid as frick where I’m at. Feels like May outside. 81, hot, sticky, and no wind

DPs were generally in the low to mid 70s that afternoon.

This thing is a bitch to read, but this is from the Super Outbreak. I'm assuming the green number is the dewpoint at the time. If so, mid-60s inland and 70s around the coast.

I think that was the surface analysis earlier in the morning. The DPs were in the 70 degree range by the time things got going that afternoon.

Spann covered it on the Weather Extreme videos leading up to April 27. Well, the forecast DPs, that is. But, yeah, they were in the 70s.

True, and I've never said otherwise. But you, or anyone else, cannot deny that 2020 was one of the slowest tornado seasons we've seen in years, nationally, by nearly every metric.

In the last 10 years 2012,13,14,15,16 & 18 had fewer tornadoes than 2020

Any of our resident experts, what is the recommended radar app? Since NWS decided to fix what wasn’t broken I am now looking for something that I can actually understand. Thanks in advance.

This is Spann’s afternoon weather xtreme video and weather blog discussion. Obviously it is Alabama focused, but it gives a lot of good explanation about the overall setup and the parameters.

It is worth noting that the CIPS top historic analog for tomorrow is February 23-24, 2007. March 2-3, 2012 is towards the top, too.

RadarScope. It’s $10 but worth every penny.

No wonder you liked my “What on Erath?” in one of the hurricane threads.

Waiting on hail reports out of Winnsboro. It went right through town.

Just on a cursory look their number for 2020 is fairly higher than what NOAA has tallied for the year.

That feeling when you see hail on radar and need hail to verify for your class forecast
