ULM - University of Louisiana Monroe. I know, I know. We’re good from first round, as well as family members at Jonesboro-Hodge.

So are we done in Shreveport for the night or is a second line of storms supposed to pop? I know the weather originally talked about later tonight, but it doesn’t appear to be showing up on the projected radar now.

No. tBoat knows what I was asking. That radar hasn't been working. It appears it is now, at least somewhat.

You still have the main line to come through which will probably be severe, as well.

Thanks, Legend. Any thoughts on the timing for this? Also, what did this first line do for the CAPE you discussed earlier?Did this first line work over the atmosphere enough to make the second line less powerful?

Lastly, I know folks like you and a few others on this site have some real training in this stuff. Do you have a recommendation on where someone like me could go to learn? I know it won’t be comparable to formal education; however, I’m wondering if you are aware of any type of places you can audit courses virtually or learn? Weather has always interested me, and I’d love to learn more.

I have some links I can post for you when I get home later tonight from the hockey game and I’m not drunk

It’s COMET modules on metEd. You just have to make an account for free.

Fortunately, the storm mode has been messy so far. I think we will see a similar threat with the next storms to roll through. Not much has changed from what was expected, and the risk for severe is still there. Even if not tornadoes, straightline winds could be an issue.

As to this, I have no formal education. What I've learned has been from reading, watching, and listening to folks who know talk.

Honestly, one of the best places you can learn is Twitter. I can give a list of great follows. A guy doing good work lately is Trey Greenwood at Convective Chronicles (on Twitter and YouTube). His YouTube videos are great, and he does breakdowns/forecasts for most setups. Reed Timmer is always doing livestream forecasts, before a chase or when he isn't in the field. You can pick up a lot from his discussions, and watching him on radar is always something. He's great at it.

You can look at Gumboweather.com for a good breakdown of the basics. Search back to his earlier posts.

There are guys here who know way more than me, and I just try to learn from them what I can.

Gotta get brother Delta in there with that watch.
Wouldn't be right without him in the mix.

I've done some of those before. There was another similar site that offered those type programs that I have bookmarked somewhere.

Weird how Dixie alley has gotten worse than Tornado alley

This is just my under qualified opinion but I don't really think things have changed all that much we are just much better at detecting smaller tornadoes (generally the case for Dixie Alley) than we used to be with all the velocity and CC stuff available these days

Then add to it certain NWS offices being more trigger happy (looking at you Memphis) than others and you end up with more warnings in Dixie alley than you used to

I'd be curious to see the verified tornado numbers from both regions then compare it to 30 years ago and see what the numbers look like
