Don't quote me but I think the BR General Mid-City is the location where most of the offshore burn victims are ultimately transported.

At least it was many years ago

So all we know is that there was a blow out somewhere in the Gulf on a manned platform? That ain't much information.

Not anymore.

No trauma on staff.

Hell level 1 is all the way in Shreveport I think.

Says they are bringing them in by boat.

Is that normal?

Being in WI I obviously know nothing about rig operations in the Gulf.

Really depends on how far out there are, condition of the folks injured, weather, chopper/boat availability and whether a chopper could even land or not, etc.

Contractors working to cap a well in the Belle Isle Field were injured when a spark ignited natural gas. The incident began on Sunday while workers were attempting to plug the abandoned well. The workers are receiving medical treatment and crews are on the scene to protect the environment and bring the well under control.

They use boats all the time as well as helicopters. Depends on the distance, economics, time requirements, etc.

That's why I was wondering. Meaning if the platform was too damaged/engulfed in fire or something. If it's close to shore I'm sure boats are probably faster and definitely cheaper for normal operations.

So was this an oil rig or a natural gas drilling rig?
