Are you old enough to remember the UFC in the beginning i the 90's? Before weight classes??
The bigger stronger guy doesnt always win in a cage match.

The bigger, stronger fighters weren't Mike fricking Tyson either.

Royce Gracie. Not even the biggest or best of the brothers. Rickson and Royler were better imo. Heck, I think Rickson may be pound for pound the deadliest overall fighter I can think of period if you throw in the ground game.

I remember those days well. I also have never seen Bruce Lee's ground game, although I HEAR a great deal about it. Come to think of it I have never seen his striking game either. Tyson is a known commodity in combat sports while Lee is an actor we have NEVER seen in a fight. All I have seen is Lee hit a heavy bag and it is pathetic, linked in my earlier post.

this thread will just continue to go in circles.

I think it's funny that some people in here think that Lee would have a mentality advantage over Tyson.
Lee was a practitioner of all that Eastern mysticism - meditation and all that.
I'll agree that Tyson was fairly well prepared for a fight while Cus was still alive - the changes to his training and corner people degraded significantly after that and Don King's influence.
In addition, Tyson never really overcame adversity to win - at least not during a fight. Never came back after a knockdown. If the opponent didn't back down or run scared, Tyson usually lost late.
Here's what I'm talking about - through Steve Zouski - 19 fights, he had only faced quality opposition against Dave Jaco and Jesse Ferguson - all of those 19 fights were knockouts in less than 6 full rounds.
Tillis and Green took him to 10 round unanimous decisions. Then, over his next 16 fights, only 2 opponents (James Smith and Tucker) went the distance. So, 4 fights in his first 39 went the distance - and of the knockouts only 1 went past 7 rounds (Ribalta, in NJ, 8/17/1986).
Then, Buster knocks him down, then later, out in Tokyo. He only fought 12 more fights in the 1990s - 9-2 with 1 NC (Norris - but Tyson should have been DQ, in my opinion), but only 1 win went the distance - Ruddock in the rematch.
In total - including well past his prime - 58 fights with only 5 decisions - he won all those that went the distance, but he also tended to lose by knockout in the middle-late rounds.
His wildness with elbows, bites, hitting after the bell - while it demonstrates he was capable of fighting outside the rules of boxing, shows that - particularly later in his career, he was extremely undisciplined.
This is obvious to the point that if Cus is not involved in the preparation of this hypothetical matchup - Tyson will be significantly less prepared than Lee for the fight.

Didn't read the whole thread, but Tyson when he was young was a freak. I don't think he could feel pain. If Tyson landed a good hit and Lee stayed on his feet I would be impressed.

That is of no consequence. I honestly believe Gerry Cooney would literally kill Lee if they had fought.

Bruce Lee had a window where he could have commanded an enormous purse for participating in a fight of any kind.... Boxing match, karate match, etc. But he didn't. Ever. Why not? Because, if he loses, his reputation suffers irreperable damage. If he was as bad a man as his image put out there, he had no reason to fear being beat did he?
When Chuck Norris was asked who would have won in a fight between the two he said " (paraphrase)I was a professional fighter, Bruce was an actor, no contest".
Nobody in this thread thinks Chuck Norris could whip Tyson, so why in the world would you think Bruce Lee could?

A no holds barred matchup between Bruce Lee and Frank Dux...winner gets a unicorn. I would pay at least 10 bitcoin to see that action.

Did you compare Bruce Lee bare-handed to Tyson with a wrap and gloves on? Of course when you have more padding you can punch harder
I am happy I bumped this because I found it intriguing. I still take Lee, but I'm listening to the other side more seriously than I had initially

Lee was simply punching incorrectly. It is poor form to push the bag when you hit it. All of your energy is delivered by punching in two inches deep and that is why boxers, and all good strikers for that matter, train to punch two inches deep and pull the hand back quickly to defend or deliver another strike. Those who do not know how to strike leave the fist in after the strike and push the bag as it makes them feel like they are hitting harder but they are not and they only leave themselves open to counters. Anyone that has boxed or had any decent striking training knows this. Lee looked HORRIBLE hitting the heavy bag.

Absolutely agree. Royce got picked because of his unintimidating "normal average joe" type of look. It helped sell Gracie Jiujitsu and make it the big business that it is today. Rickson is/was legit badass. Cant argue with that either.

mmk..
Would Tyson be ready for the foot that Lee would plant right in Tyson's face repeatedly?
