There may be some components from China but not the majority. Most majors actually have country of origin specs that prohibit material/equipment from China.
Im not saying they are, I’m saying they could be.
Creating discriminatory taxes is never a good idea, and often not legal

Yeah, this in spades. They probably need a longer transition period of say, five years, to spool up production of parts here.
Probably wouldn’t be long enough since we don’t process rare earth minerals here in any significant way to support large scale industry.

The power industry is grappling with meeting electricity demand that is rising for the first time in a generation. The growth is largely due to the artificial intelligence craze and rush to build huge, electricity-chugging data centers.
I have an idea. Instead of pushing bullshite that doesn’t work why don’t we upgrade the grid and start building power generation plants that are proven..ie coal and LNG?

Horses still work, what was the point of developing cars?
I get why you would call a lot of democrats retards in response to their outlook on alternative energy, but I’ll never understand the whole scale opposition

Can we START giving out incentives for Nuclear please? Not only reduce red tape, start pumping up the incentives as well. Thx

We cheer taxes now. Strange world.

Because we’ve thrown tons of money into renewable energy scams while simultaneously choking off proven sources of electricity…all while our power bills go up and up and up. There is no excuse for the US to have rolling brown outs like a 3rd world county.
And this isn’t taxing the industry…this it repealing tax credits ….which have been abused. If the industry was profitable and efficient money would flow into it without tax credits. But it doesn’t because it can’t stand on its own merits.

Can we get rid of the CAFE standards?

same could be said for any other president…

From your lips to Gods ears. Congress needs to pass a law that restricts agencies from mandating any energy related standards on private companies and their products.
If we did that the cost of vehicles (and God knows what else) would drop 25% within 5 years.

I thought so as well after reading the excerpt in OP, but no. It’s repealing existing tax credits while also adding a new tax if a certain percentage of materials come from China.

You have to pay it back

A tariff or tax? I know that might be considered the same thing….

It’s an excise tax on solar projects. Not a tariff. It would be taxation in addition to any tariffs on Chinese imports.

It takes 800 (in optimal conditions) windmills to generate the output of a single nuclear reactor.
It takes 8.5 million solar panels to generate the same.
People (Musk, notably) only push for solar/wind because they invested in it too deeply. It'd be like forgoing modern blood tests because they believe Theranos is the future or something.
I thought Musk was a super genius and we have to keep them around since we don't have enough of them? (House analogy is spot on)

Investing so heavily to artificially keep the renewables sector running when we have much better, actually environmentally friendly options is the definition of picking and choosing using taxes. It's time to get real and honest about the bullshite, niche application sector of the energy industry that we call "renewables," and the retardation of the government in propping it up. There's nothing "renewable" or "environmentally friendly" and it's time they start getting taxed like it if everyone else has to eat that shite sandwhich except them.

It’s discriminatory though. If you produce oil or lng you can buy shite from china all day long. This is bad policy. This board says the government shouldn’t pick winners and losers all the time, but is okay with it here because they don’t like the loser
O&G buys relatively little from China, so there's no problem to solve with incentives or disincentives there. If the goal is to move more basic manufacturing here that is strategically dual use - civilian and defense - then this is a good move, albeit flawed by the short timeline.

New tax got whacked in the bill that passed.
