Do any of you OT Ballers own self-service ice machines? The kind you swipe your card and get ice? The ones here in Central MS are the size of tractor trailers but I was in FL this past weekend and they have some that are the size of refrigerators.

Are these decent money makers? I'm looking for retirement hustles.

What is the initial investment? I'm assuming you have to pay rent to the convenience store, etc., where it is located.

Good luck, pass.

Labor intensive, you don’t own it: it owns you.

I'd imagine that it takes a good many of them to be a reliable source of income.

As unreliable as regular ice makers are, those things have got to be absolute nightmares.

I know a guy that's very wealthy from them. It seems like you are too late to the game anywhere they would make money though

For the tractor trailer size ones you're looking at ~$100k for the machine/building, and then yeah you'll probably have a lease plus electric/water/internet service.

Looked into it 10 years ago and it was right around $100k startup.

Yeah, but as with most things location location location. If you set up shop near a busy landing you can sell $100k of ice in no time.

I can't imagine those things are profitable without the owner being handy with the maintenance.

prime location in a big city can gross 80k+ a month in the summers.

See post on next page 80k isnt out of the realm of possibility but maybe i miss quoted the guy and it was 80k a year.

I've been told by people that finance a lot of their lifestyle that these things are great moneymakers.

I've been told by people that are HVAC certified that you better be ready to work on them.

I know a guy that owns 6 of them.

It’s a side hustle for him. He said he nets 10k a year but basically does all the work on them himself. Said if he had to hire repairmen labor etc it would wipe out almost all his profit

all above is correct except it’s closer to 200K all in now plus maintenance. Plus the land lease unless you own the dirt.
