Most restaurants will literally hire anyone for their lower tier jobs, which you cannot open a restaurant without.

Busses, dishwashers, line cooks, sure

Try to run a business without them.

Waiters here make at least min wage ($10.19) plus tips. Its really good money.

You mean...and in order too:

1...Tell time
2...Do two things at once
3...Count
4...Remember things
5...How to get things and put them away
6...Read
7...etc

These are basic human functions. Nothing you mentioned is in anyway complex for a 3rd grader. How close are you to making connections with Bartenders and Theoretical Physicists?

And you'll get fired, and continually deal with low paying jobs.

This is how poor stay poor.

because a lot of people do not like kiosks or iPad ordering systems

you know how some people struggle with self checkout in a grocery store? now try to get those same people to order from a kiosk

we just aren't there yet as a populace

basically I'm saying the boomers need to die off first before this becomes a common thing

Plus, every self ordering system just means fewer 20-year old asses for old men to stare at.

But you can't teach that monkey time management

Most back of the house jobs don't require much skill, nothing that can't be taught in house.

I understand that, but it should be an option, not required. Many people would opt for it.

As I recall, the one I used at a Chili's was optional. You could just order from the waiter.

But you placed your order on it, asked for refills and paid your bill. Very little waiter interaction.

I preferred it to ordering at the counter first and then sitting down, as many restaurants do.

Most people just don’t like hearing the fact that if you’re getting paid minimum wage then your time and labor are literally worth less than minimum wage to your employer. He only pays you as much as he does because he’s required to by law.

Right. Like self checkouts.

I assume the large chains have done their research on this though and either the customers just don't use it enough or the systems themselves cause too much confusion for their employees for it to be effective.

I agree with you and definitely think it will be more common in the future though.

That is good.

My wife manages a restaurant. They're having a little trouble keeping servers, but their kitchen has been decimated. Due to supply issues, they've already had to increase menu prices, and another increase will have to happen because they've got to pay kitchen staff more.

I'm sure the systems are expensive, but there is a price point that makes them affordable. I would imagine we are getting to that point.

I have seen them in videos at McDonalds type places. YOu walk in, order your food at the kiosk, and then pick it up. No employee interaction at all. Which is beautiful.

I would expect these to be more common first, before casual dining type places.

It’s true. Politics be damned. All you have to do is look at help wanted signs.

Hell if I had more time on my hands I’d take a part time job at a golf or guitar store.

Please don't take this personally, but I think it might be unwise for me to take someone who averages 50 posts a day on a message board for over a decade too seriously.

Fast food chain to replace humans with robotic fry cook

This is the shite I want to see. Low skilled workers are pushing their importance a bit too far.

I see why this might work at Chili's but not really anything local.. and certainly not anywhere higher end.

the unintended consequence of this though will be more crime and more dependency on the government

I dont normally feel ill will about some random person online but your posting about jobs the last few days has me right there. Jeez dude

I've been to a McDonald's that had them. Nobody was using them despite the employee out there trying to steer them to it. The Shake Shack near my office uses them almost exclusively. They only send someone to the register if they're paying cash.

I could see using one at a sit down restaurant. There have been several times we've been ready to order and the waiter is nowhere to be found.

Chicken or the egg. Dependency on the government is what may cause this.
