re: Sad news to report from Money Talk board regarding fellow OT poster

It's a complex topic...I think a lot of the stigma against the s word on here has to do with men shouldn't be open about their feelings. And like you said, it makes you look weak. Which is insane because we all have gone through times of depression/intense anxiety.
Ill sometimes look at bios of attorneys at big law firms and wonder how those people aren't fricking miserable. They try to do everything, work a million hours, and all for what?

i dunno but i was going to post earlier that these stories, when they "hit home", are good for a place like the OT that usually treats the S-word like it's unexplainable and then they talk shite about the person who did it.
This board has helped shape my views on the topic (along with IRL instances involving people I knew but weren't super close to). Having gone to Catholic school for like 14 years, it's easy to have a dim view of the issue and call someone out as a sinner and call it a day at that. I guess I've become a little more progressive as I've learned over the years and my opinions and views have become more nuanced.
Suffice to say, I agree with the above quote.

Your loss. But I'm older than him and did not personally know him.
Maybe a loss but I'm older than him by almost 20 years ... technically old enough to be his momma and I didn't know him either. Husband knows his parents. Our younger son knows his younger brother.

It's quite an accomplishment by a very bright man.

i think most people just don't realize (or don't want to realize for meta implications) that this isn't some pie in the sky, subjective mental issue. it's almost always a purely biological issue. our happiness is composed of chemicals and if our body isn't producing them enough internally, we cannot be happy.
it's almost ironic that they see this as a subjective weakness but then believe that happiness is some subjective strength. they deny the impact of one "feeling" while purely believing in another "feeling", when it's all just levels of chemicals that our body is producing.

Many think that everyone knows one another in Vermilion Parish, including Abbeville or Gueydan. Not so.
I can say though that I do know everyone in Henry and Boston, lol

yep
It will be interesting as time goes on, how public perception will be towards these things. Wouldn't surprise me if somewhere down the road, "mental health" isn't even a term as it's used now. It'll just be health

Damn man, that's sad. Only a year younger than me, too. Way too young.
Just read through the entire thread, and it really hits home. I have a son that's almost 2, and I battled a pain pill addiction for about 10 years before getting sober a little over a year ago. I was in dark places many times throughout those 10 years, but now I live my life for my son, and couldn't imagine it without him. I make sure to give him a kiss and tell him I love him everyday, so that he'll never forget it when I'm gone.

I watched Warren Morris hit that 9th inning home run to win the CWS in Don's Landing, beer firmly in hand.

I just went back and re-read all of the emails Flask and I traded.
Our first email was in early 2009 during the worst of the Great Recession. We commiserated on what we thought needed to be done in the banking sector to prevent a repeat of the banking bailout. He was in grad school then and was a very advanced thinker for someone his age and experience.
He must have been involved with the LSU MBA Alumni Association because he wrote me in 2010 asking if I wanted to participate in their fund raising golf tournament. I told him I didn't play golf but I would make a donation. Then he wrote later thanking me for the donation.
When my colon cancer recurred in 2011 he wrote me regularly asking for my health updates, how I was tolerating the chemo, asked me if he could do anything for me, etc. A genuinely thoughtful, nice guy.
I tried to determine if there was anything in any of his emails that hinted that he was depressed or for any sign that something was seriously wrong. Nothing. Nada. He was always upbeat, looking forward to his career, new assignments, new challenges and LSU sports, of course.
I just don't understand what happened. RIP, my friend.

It's crazy how I feel nauseated over the passing of a person I've never met before and I'm not sure we ever even replied to one another on TD. I just know I've read a ton of his posts and that he had a fiance and child. So sad that the human mind is capable of rationalizing something like this.
RIP.
RIP.

Well I'll just guess. 20% chance I'm right.
