Russian Aircraft Carrier Admiral Kuznetsov to return to sea in 2022

Russia’s only aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, will reportedly emerge from its refit in 2022. That’s at least according to Russian state media, which quotes an anonymous source in the country’s shipbuilding industry.
The carrier, which has earned the reputation of a cursed ship, is in dire need of a replacement, but Russia lacks the funds and industrial capability to fully commit.
Russia has announced several efforts over the past 15 years to build Kuznetsov’s replacement. But the country lacks both the funds to invest in a fully modern ship, and the shipyard capacity to build such a large vessel. The result is a continued reliance on an old, decrepit warship that should have left service a long time ago.
Will Kuznetov really be ready for sea trials in 2022? Only time will tell.

I surely hope for the Sailors aboard that the Russian tug boats are ready to escort the Kunetzov around. I wonder if they ever improved the black smoke trails it leaves that makes the vessel look like its on fire all the time.

To be fair Russia has always been a land power

For the briefest of moments I thought they were flying the confederate battle flag

Yes, we have eleven of the largest targets on the ocean. In this day and age of World satellite surveillance & guided weapons, the carrier might not be what it once was. A lot of air power would be lost if one goes down. The carrier’s days have to be numbered in modern warfare.

We’re still building them, so it would appear they’ve got a lot of days left.

The Russian Ka-52 is probably superior to our AH-64 and AH-1Z attack helicopters. The Sukhoi Su-35 and Su-34 are nice aircraft for their respective roles. That's all I got.

What platform do you propose launching them from?

Well, they are, just not on sea.

The media and the left leaning citizens will have you know that Russian is the most serious threat to the US! ... and please ignore that China is superior in every way and actively engaging in genocide, disrupting our economics, and enleashing bioweapons on us

Any nation that has nukes is a threat. Even our allies.

Damn Russia really is a paper tiger. Only 1 barely functioning aircraft carrier.

The Soviet Navy was always third in line, when it came to funding. And even at that, their submarine force was the priority, not surface ships.
The Kuznetsov is a bad design.
I assume they value the prestige of operating a carrier, and they want to maintain the basic skill sets involved in operating a carrier. If they mothball the Kuznetsov, they would lose those skills very quickly, and it would take a long time to relearn them.

From a couple of years ago in the Donbas. That's a rebel tank.
