Russia withdraws from World War II peace talks with Japan.

Actually, Japan sealed ownership of those islands in a war against Russia in 1905. If Russia wants them, then maybe they should return a sizable chunk of Finland that they took at the end of WWII to demonstrate that they are being genuine regarding historic dominion of land. A lot of Finns are still quite pissed about that.

Russia had entered the war in July of 1945 in the East and wad seized the southern half of Sakhalin Island and had been rolling through Manchuria. Truman was not about to have to share hard fought US gains with a bunch of Vodka drinkers who were going to cross the finish line without running the race.

A lot of the post-911 patriotism by the Left was nothing but red, white and blue virtue signaling. It didn't last long. The dust had barely settled at the Twin Towers before Democrats were blaming America for the Islamic terrorists attacking us.
