Most everyone owns at least one screwdriver. But Canadians likely own a screwdriver that few outside Canada would recognize. The differing fates of the Robertson and the Phillips head screwdrivers demonstrates that innovation is intimately tied to historical events. The History Guy remembers the forgotten history of the screwdriver.

jeebus, we can't even have a thread on screwdrivers without somebody trying to make it political.

No, no! Every time I think of this shitshow subject the flat-head screw situation just pisses me off. It isn't good for my blood pressure.

All I saw was Phil and Robertson and instantly thought this thread was about duck dynasty.

The fact that this article is leaving out Dr. Flathead is an abomination…

There was a great docudrama on Discovery or Hisotry channel about DeWalt, B&D and Milwaukee.

Interesting. I had never heard of the Robertson screw.

While flathead is terrible, Phillips is still not great. Torx or Square drive are much better and now pretty much the only type I’ll buy.

It would be interesting to see how the Robertson design differs from the current square drive, if they are actually different.
