The History Channel recently ran a documentary on the history of the secret service and the agents interviewed said Jimmy Carter was a jerk

And this is what it boils down to. If you want to blame anyone for the Iran hostage crisis, blame Eisenhower. It was under his administration that the CIA overthrew Mossadegh and installed the Shah as dictator, which is precisely the reason for the Iranian revolution and the hostage crisis.

Better than being a murderer as several have been since then.

Was a very good man, but Reagan was the breath of fresh air we needed. RIP Sir.

a lot of people in here bad at historying but agree with this, however, as is usually the case, one party fricks everything up so bad that the voters decide to give the other side a turn, which is how Carter got elected

I wouldn’t have expected such a presidential statement…

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. The man, Jimmy Carter, was a fine man who let his work reflect his beliefs and principles. He walked with the Lord and for that he deserves my respect and condolences. Rest in Peace Mr. President.

Glad he can finally get some well-deserved rest and peace with his beloved wife. He was hammering in nails on houses for people in need up until a few years ago when he couldn’t swing a hammer anymore. He didn’t have to be doing that but he lived a life of service to others. I hope to be like that.

My opinions about his presidency are immaterial because he was much more than those four years.

RIP

His political career is one thing, but at least he tried to make the world a better place long after he was out of Washington.

Yep. Incredibly smart too (not talking about political judgment). One of Rickover's men in the fledging nuclear submarine program.

He and Clinton are at/near the top of smartest presidents we've had.

Reagan gets credit for rebuilding the US military after Vietnam, but Carter started it and it was well underway by the time Reagan took office. This gave Reagan some options Carter didn't have.

Well written post, have an up vote

No he wasn’t. If anything he was a graceful loser and he was far from being petty. He was a great ambassador for the United States after his term and a true southern gentleman.

And he and Reagan had a good relationship. When the Iran hostages came home Reagan asked him to be the one to greet them.

I didn’t care for his policies nor did I vote for him but I always, as most did, respected him.
