Residents sue state governments to reinstate extra unemployment benefits
I can actually remember a time when it was taboo to be unemployed in this country. Not anymore. These “adults” are nothing more than angry children whining because something was taken away from them. It’s not just Texas but is occurring in several states. I’m sure they will be able to round up a few losers in Louisiana to do the same. I suppose things like self reliance are just too much for some people to handle. Pathetic

Worry about yourself, and stop judging other people. This is the 5th post about unemployment and hate for poor people. We get it.

Interesting that no one has a problem with all the unnecessary child tax credit monthly checks.

I do have a problem with the child tax credit checks. Especially for those who do not pay taxes but have many children.

Even someone as stupid as me has never had to rely on the government for a helping hand. Have some pride in yourself and make a change. Work two jobs if you have to. It’s called being an adult.

Plenty of people do, but they realize they have to pay it back in April so who cares?

Nobody is hating poor people, they’re hating lazy people. The lazy people wouldn’t be poor if they stopped suckling the unemployment teet

It makes no sense whatsoever to extend it and hasn’t for a while now. You cant drive anywhere around here without seeing double digit ‘help wanted’ signs.

People need to get off of their lazy asses and quit living off of handouts.

Why don’t you spend some time helping someone or making someone’s day better instead of judging people whose situation you know nothing about? Not everyone has an inheritance or comes from a decent family. Some people work very hard and life circumstances (ie health issues, death, unexpected job loss, etc) make life difficult enough.

I am living proof that you can come from a rural town with nothing more than a public education and still succeed. I’ve lived off of 29 cent Mac&cheese while working two jobs to finish college. I’ve never been arrested. I’ve always showed up to work. I pass drug tests. It’s not that hard to be successful in this country. Losers always have an excuse……

While your concern for the less fortunate amongst us is on the admirable side, this doesn't really have anything to do with "poor people". It's about people who are actively trying to throw up roadblocks to their becoming employed, or re-employed as the case may be. The article itself cites, specifically, impediments to returning to work of "cost of transportation" and "healthcare". I just can't see how those and similar factors cause these folks to be unable to fill the endless sea of job openings both in Texas and elsewhere. I'm sure we're all aware of the shortage of workers the entire country is experiencing. The jobs are sitting there awaiting them, many of which are even advertising bonuses to sign on.

If you’re unemployed for an extended period of time you are a piece of fricking shite.

All this shite is what regular unemployment is for...and welfare...and food stamp...and everything else that the government gives to slackers.

The enhanced unemployment because of COVID is a joke and never should have been done. It better stay ended.

The child tax credit up front is a joke too...but at least it is a tax credit that already exists...they are just giving it to people up front (yea I realize they gave a little more to people per child based on age...that was stupid too).

Especially right now....McDonald's is begging to hire people for 10 dollars an hour....10 fricking dollars an hour to do mindless work at McDonald's.

Progressives love to talk about a “living wage”

Well I got news for you. If I can’t specify “no Mayo and tomatoes” without it causing some mind numbing catastrophe, you don’t deserve a living wage. You deserve the minimum.

50% of the time, these dodos can’t understand that. And you want to pay them more?

If you are working very hard or dead why would you need unemployment?

I think the point is sure, sometimes a person may need a temporary helping hand and that's fine but unemployment and welfare shouldn't be a way of life. There are plenty of jobs out there, people need to get back to work

Tax credit is you keeping more of the money you earned

Too high unemployment keeps people from working when there are plenty of help wanted signs.

Sorry you're poor, but I think the complaint everyone has is pretty legitimate. Jobs are plentiful right now and easy to be found. There is no reason for people to be unemployed right now, and definitely no reason to maintain the enhanced benefits. And by worrying about this, I am worrying about myself. Where do you think all this unemployment money comes from? The money fairy? No, it's coming from my fricking tax dollars. So go get a damn job!!!

Yes and those are called exceptions. The issue is half this country wants to find a way to get in on that exception money.
