You do see that it works both ways, right?

Not with this topic, though. We pretend there are only two sides...belief and non-belief and start to argue as such. then details begin to show and we have the various Christians break into pacts arguing their own special versions...pretending not to notice each other! haha I, and others, end up arguing with some who want to argue that Jonah REALLY was in a big fish, while others argue that the stories are just parables. What never seems to happen is that the more reasonable believers step in and say, "Wait...what did you just say about Noah's Ark?!? to their more, um...nuttier kin.

quote:

I mean can we go back to our discussion earlier...what is the point of even arguing with someone like this?

I argue with them because I find them to be GENUINELY dangerous. when about 40% of the American public think The bible is the inerrant word of God, the problems that spin out of that are numerous and scary as all get out. My kind should NOT be the only kind standing up to those guys...

Nope. Because there is power in the name of Jesus. Not so much with your other listings

So...they're hallucinating? Lying?

When they make the same claims...what's their deal if you're correct and they are not?

What about their claim that they are correct, and you are either delusional or lying?

Ok bro. See your child on their deathbed. Hold a dying friend. You won't be so tough then.

It's not about being tough, asshat...it's about having come to this belief through thought. I'd no more call out to Jesus than I would to Thor...because I think both are make believe.

I'm 43 years old and have had TONS of shitty things happen in my life. I worked through them with the help of family and friends and at no point did it ever even occur to me to ask some deity for help. Again...why would I even think of such a thing if I don;t think they're real?

Like I said earlier, can you not realize that I view your faith exactly the same way that you view the faith of every other religion other than your own? If it is easy of you to disregard other religious faiths, how can you not understand there is the same lack of evidence for whatever faith you hold?

No, I won't.

And this'll get you worked up. Even if I KNEW God was real, there is NO WAY I'd WILLING follow him based on what I know about him from The Bible. Oh...I may acknowledge his existence, but I'd never willingly follow.

And if the best you can do is to threaten non-believers into submission, then...well, I guess I don't even need to go further.

I hope it's by choice.

It won't be, sorry.

Hey man it's not my job to make you think what I think. It's my job to tell you what I've been through. You seem to mock things though so I'll stop wasting your time.

It's not about making, it's about showing. You seem extremely interested in having people believe your claims, but unwilling to provide any evidence other than your own testimony.

That's a good job if you can get it, I guess...but it makes you no different than any other person who trots out an extraordinary claim with any extraordinary evidence. Your desire to think your case is special while theirs is not is just textbook special pleading.

I mock unfounded claims and the suggestion that asking for evidence is ever a bad thing. I'm sorry your faith seems to teach you that asking for evidence is bad. Seems a solid way to have followers who will believe literally anything...

So you don't trust your kids to be presented with all viewpoints and make the logical conclusions themselves? Seems like you do have a dog in the fight man. I don't mean that in a rude or challenging way, but if you have to "look out" for people teaching your kids viewpoints which oppose your own, it would stand to reason that you actively oppose it, rather than simply disagree. I mean, you do have the opportunity to teach your kids anything you want.

Tell that to Catholicism. It's so steeped in tradition and rituals it may as well be choreographed.

He'll be just like all of the other atheist that beg like little bitches for Christ to "enter their heart" as they're laying on their deathbed.

I see it all the time. They talk down religion but as soon as they know they are about to die, they beg. This guy will be no different. He'll be scared shitless if he's in a situation where he knows death is near.

My last post on the subject...the evidence is all around you if you open your mind. There can be no other explanation. When you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be true...said the ultimate man of reason. The universe, and the building blocks of life, did not magically appear. Therefor the universe must have been created by a higher being.

Possibly but aliens would be a more likely explanation than a Christian God.

I seriously doubt you've seen this happen all the time. Probably not even once.
