Real ID - La. Driver's License question

2Question for you smart La. baws of the OT. I went into an OMV branch last week and got my regular DL renewed to November 2028. Completely forgot to inquire into this Real ID and if that's even a thing anymore. Does anyone know if there is still this "super" type ID requirement that will make my regular one obsolete within the next few years? And from a 10,000 foot view, what is the purpose of this advanced identification? Tia.

Just get a passport and you will be good for anything.

There is. You will need it to fly. If you have a valid passport you will just need to bring that along if you don't get the "real ID"

on 11/29/22 at 8:19 am to CosmoI switched my license fron Colorado to Texas in 2020. Got my real ID when I did. It honestly didn't require much effort and it is nice not having to carry my passport all the time but I still do just in case.
