In Bikerrack's comment above is a LINK to a Washington Post article some of it copied in the twitter about what a woman heard and saw and decided to take her two children and run away from the building, seven frickin' minutes before the video of the collapse began.
She had a ground floor unit.

Sara Nir, a resident of Champlain Towers South, has said in multiple interviews that she was inside her ground-level apartment shortly before 1 a.m. when she heard loud “knocking” noises, followed by a noise that sounded like a wall crashing down around 1:14 a.m.
Nir told the Washington Post she ran to the lobby to alert a security guard, then heard a very loud boom and saw that part of the surface-level parking area and part of the pool deck had collapsed into the underground parking garage.
She said she ran back to her apartment to get her two children and the three of them ran from the building before it collapsed minutes later.
Another resident, Cassie Stratton, called her husband from her fourth-floor balcony telling him a crater had formed in the pool deck, her husband told the Herald. Then the line went dead. Stratton is among those still missing in the rubble.

SURFSIDE, Fla. – In the early morning hours Thursday, immediately after Champlain Towers South collapsed, fire rescue workers heard reports of a woman alive trapped in a lower level that was now inside the garage.
One rescue worker who asked to remain anonymous tells Local 10 News: “Everybody that was there, that’s what we’re trying to do, get this lady out and comfort her. ... She was asking for help and she was pleading to be taken out of there.
“We were continuously talking to her. ... ‘Honey, we got you. We’re going to get to you.’”
But a photo he shared showed what stood in their way: A dumpster, metal rebar, and a wall of concrete.
The rescue worker says he and others first on the scene rushed into that debris before anyone even knew if the building was safe, pausing only to send a quick text to his children: “Love you guys, always.”
He says he was never able to see the woman trapped inside.
“The first thing I remember is thumping on the wall and then I remember her just talking, ‘I’m here, get me out. Get me out,’” he says.
He says crews never abandoned their effort — but he later learned the woman didn’t make it.

Regret edit: Yea, That didn't come out right. I wasn't judging- you think it's a survival situation, you get your kids and get out. I just hope she realizes it's ok to be grateful to get out with her kids and leave it at that.

A general question to anyone about the original video released from pool area security camera at new building south of collapsed condo.
Are they purposely leaving out some of some of the start collapse or was building just too dark in video until all the movement of building collapsing along with the initial bright lights (or reflections of lights) and flashes made camera adjust its focus & brightness level more on building collapsing in upper background versus pool in foreground?

It says she ran to call a security guard.

If it's like my cameras at my work, it only records when it detects motion. Maybe that camera is similar

I also am glad to see I'm not the only one still thinking top-down (in an unseen location) is a contender for the starting point.
Looking at the video I was thinking the same thing. But might be one of those triple jeopardy situations based on all the other evidence. I’ve demo’d plenty of industrial plants, we weaken the top and cut the base and get a similar result. But the rebar at the top of the rubble looked clean, but the way it failed in video almost suggests point loading.

Would this suggest a sinkhole?

I posted it days ago and got downvoted, but nothing here suggests anything to me other than corrosion leading to concrete failure. The signal is only getting stronger.

I thought this the other day but got sidetracked.
I just compared the first frame of the video to a streetview from google, and it certainly looks like the roofline is different.
So unless they did some roofline modification since that picture, the video doesn't show the start of the collapse. I have no idea if this is common knowledge or not.

It looks to me like at least the 2 top floors of this section collapsed before the bottom drops out. This is the first frame, so that video not giving us the full picture.
Notice the lights still on right below the red line. That floor hasn't moved yet. But the roof line is clearly missing from that section.
Since the first motion in the video is either bottom up, or all floors at once, there's obviously got to be some way collapsed penthouse turns into bottom drops out.
ETA: Or somehow the power stays on in those windows after the whole thing has dropped 2+ floors? I can't tell.

I didn’t think the pool deck was on the ground level?

They halted the search and rescue because of the adjacent building. This is not good
Wait...do you mean the part that hasn't fallen, or a completely different building altogether?

it's not
everything sat on top of the building's parking garage

Thanks. While not good news, certainly better than a completely different building.

Dayum I didn't realize this. So going from that other video, it seems possible a vehicle hitting a column in the garage could have caused this? Seems most certainly that would have been well thought out though?
