@AgendaFreeTV I am a resident of one of the condos on the side of the collapse. This is a video from my camera footage inside from the start of the collapse until the lose of connection (I was away from the building today). Towards the end, you hear the structure failing

but I would think they would find another way to describe them instead of using a term that some may consider almost derogatory

Please God, after praying for the victims this is #2. Make this shite stop. Amen.

There appears to be a wall separating the front door entrance area from the kitchen. It starts to lean and buckle towards the end of the video.

As I was saying, something doesn't seem right. .. . buildings don't just collapse without some event like an explosion, fire, construction or denigration.
@CNN

Turns out, this one didn't either. #miamibuildingcollapse

Collapsed Miami condo had been sinking into Earth as early as the 1990s, researchers say

quote:

A Florida high rise that collapsed early Thursday was determined to be unstable a year ago, according to a researcher at Florida International University.

The building, which was constructed in 1981 on reclaimed wetlands, has been sinking at an alarming rate since the 1990s, according to a 2020 study conducted by Shimon Wdowinski, a professor in the Department of Earth and Environment at Florida International University.

When he heard the news that a condo had collapsed, he immediately knew which building it was, Wdowinski said.

“I looked at it this morning and said ‘Oh my god.’ We did detect that,” he said.

quote:

A 2015 lawsuit that alleged building management failed to maintain an outside wall, resulting in water damage and cracks. The owner who filed that suit, Matilde Feinstein, had previously sued over the same issue, she said in court filing she previously. The management company paid for damages in the earlier case, she said.

Cracked walls or shifting foundations can be clues that sinking has affected the stability of a structure, according to Wdownski.

Unreal. How do people in charge of decision making ignore blatant evidence like that and just turn a blind eye? They’re fricked now

Wdownski said he doesn’t believe that anybody in the city or state government would have had a reason to be aware of the findings of the study. The bulk of it focused on potential flooding hazards, not engineering concerns. The study’s mention of the “12-story condominium” was relegated to a single line.

“We didn’t give it too much importance,” Wdowinski said.

He added that the incident has made him think of the potential utility of using such data to identify areas of potential structure risk now and in the future.

I live in a high rise apartment complex next to water.

I’m not worried about the structural integrity of the building as it’s less than 10 years old, but seeing something like this definitely gives me a bit of the heebeejeebees.

NBC 6 says some people did read some clues trouble was brewing and left the building prior to the collapse

Reminds me of the Millennium Tower in Sa Francisco, which has settled 17 inches since it was built 12 years ago and is still occupied.

Don't build your house on the sandy land. Don't build it too near the shore.

Sand is actually a great material to build on as it compacts extremely well and has incredible strength when done properly. But there’s a lot more variables that go into this then that.

Possible, however there would be some warning signs before just letting loose.

Almost certainly BUT someone would have to act upon those warning signs. Just look at the Memphis I-40 bridge which underwent routine "professional" inspections. The bridge is a tied-arch bridge and along with the arches, the two ties are THE fracture critical members and one tie was completely severed. There is drone footage from a 2019 inspection that clearly showed the fracture and a picture take in 2016 by a boater where the crack was also clearly visible from the water below with the naked eye so 2019 was not the first time "professional inspector eyes" should have been on the tie member.

No matter what the failure mode was there were almost certainly signs but someone that could identify them had to see them and then act on them.

Pretty easily. If the building was old there is a good chance that a lot of the owners paid a fraction of the current value of the units. So they don’t necessarily have $ to fix it. Retirees on fixed income, LOTS of foreigners in that area. When it comes Time to vote and each owner has to cough up 100k or whatever to get it fixed, it is easy to kick the can down the road. Especially if a few of the board members don’t have the money. I have a family member in a condo 15 blocks from there who got hit with over 60k in fees to replace the windows and redo the pool.

Or to own a unit in the section that's still standing.
What do you even do with that? Besides run for your life and never look back at it..
I guess lawyer up & go get some serious counseling just so you can sleep again.
Cash the insurance check and buy a house.

That might be a sign that you are overvaluing journalists. It's time to start interpreting news reports to better grasp what's really happening.

It just means that at the moment that piece of news was reported, only one body had been recovered. The number will go up much higher. Until then other residents are simply missing.

I'm praying that the part of the building that collapsed was the part being renovated and not occupied with residents.
