Please answer questions without research and let me know what you think.

Do you think population collapse is a real top problem that could lead to the destruction of our world?

Do you think we are growing as a world or is our population going down?

Would you rather the population increase or decrease?

I’ll add more info after I get a few responses.

Populations are becoming more dense and our societies worldwide are mandating more urban population density.

The total number is less important than that and I don't think it's sustainable.

It’s a problem, as the population skews older, that means less working people and more people on social security/retirement etc. Having said that, it’s not that big of a deal, there will actually be a time where only a tiny fraction of the population has to work at all, and that will be minimal.

We could fit the entire world’s population in the state of Texas at the density of Manhattan. If anything it’s about resources, not actually too many people per square mile or whatever. So being more dense in cities is not a valid concern.

I'm not sure what you mean by the destruction of our world as the Earth itself is rather indifferent to our presence on it. But would population collapse lead to the world being uninhabitable by humans? Probably not, maybe the other way around.

Nature has shown us that in any population of organisms, as carrying capacity of their environment is exceeded, there are mechanisms that will bring the population back in balance with available resources. These mechanisms typically involve disease like viruses and bacteria, but may include genetic behavioral responses. So if we don't either reduce the population, or use technology to increase the carrying capacity of the world, nature will find a way to thin our herd.

I'm generally indifferent, but it does seem like it would be wise to have a large margin of safety.

So I was under the assumption that the population was growing as that is always what is reported. Was watching a podcast with Elon Musk and he thinks population collapse (along with many other scenarios he discusses) is one of the greatest threats to the world. He says that we are shrinking and there are not enough young people to take care of the older people, especially since people are living longer. All of this is objective with data to back it up.

He thinks we should be having many more children. Another interesting thing was, he stated the one child policy in China was done away with like 10 years ago and China needs way more young people or a way to get rid of the older generation (insert conspiracy over the last two years). One way to objectively track this is the amount of old people diapers vs baby diapers. He talked about how Japan has known this for about a decade and they are actively trying to get it fixed because it is such an important issue.

If you think of this way, if there are not enough young people there will be a huge amount of problems. So the people on social security will not have enough of young people to pay for those that deserve it after putting in their entire life.

It’s almost like this is such a serious issue and we’ve all been told that the world is over populated and we should not be growing (the exact opposite of the reality, which will create a doomsday scenario. I would highly recommend listening to the podcast where he discusses it to get more of an idea. It completely caught me off guard and I need to hear it again since I’ve never heard about this situation.

It was the nelk podcast and here’s the link.

YouTube link

Starts at 1:08.

Why the fricking downvotes? This is some serious shite that will literally destroy the world.

He’s not the first person to talk about this. And you took like 1000 words to explain one sentence. There will be less working aged people and more elderly people on social security/retirement etc.

It will be way less than a million years, this shite will happen a lot sooner than you think, if you agree with the genius. Just listen and hear it out.

Since I’ve heard this I’ve been legit having anxiety about it. This is some scary shite but we are so engrained with false info that most will overlook this and disregard it.
