I've only been to one hipster bar that did this, and it was fricking retarded.
For some reason I didn't have a qr reader on my phone (hadn't used it since way back when qr codes were new and cool ages ago). So I download the reader. Scan the code - which takes me to a webpage with a tiny jpg of a scanned paper menu that's illegible when I enlarge it. Verrrry efficient.

Well, he’s right. They were around well before Covid.

You're probably right, I just hadn't even thought about using them in years until this bar needed it to order food earlier this year. The last time I used one was a couple phones ago.

This right here. I make a conscious effort to put that away around company. It’s too tempting to go to TD or check a recent headline.

Can’t wait until I get old so I can complain about the most trivial shite in existence.

Before heading out to meet my fellow WWII veterans for the early bird special, I have my grandson print copies of the menu from his computer. I take them down to a place called Kinko’s and have them laminated. I bring plenty of extras for my surviving friends.

I'm not sure it has anything to do with "getting old". I hate those damn things too. It's just an unnecessary hindrance for their customers who want to enjoy time with their friends/family. I really hope that restaurants start to see their average ticket price decline as a result of these things. Surely some of the science behind the menu layouts has to be lost as a result of trying to read the menu on your phone?

I like the convenience, but it does open the option of instilling some type of “surge pricing” menu where you can change prices on the fly by linking to a different PDF/changing the menu online.
Don't know why you're being downvoted, because you're 100% correct.
Saw this at a Tuscaloosa restaurant we had gone to during the day of the spring game. I had visited about a week prior, and the prices had increased across the board. Asked the waiter, and he said it was "gameday" pricing.
