What are the pros/cons of Timeshare? I've heard good and bad. If any of you can give me some input on this it I would be grateful. Thanks.

My in laws have had one for years. Them, and their kids collectively go on 5-7 high end vacas a year. The places are 5*. Any location you want. I think the dues are about 2 Gs a year. If you vacation once a year, it would be a waste. If traveling is your hobby, then it can save you some money.

That's not a timeshare. That's a vacation club

Same thing. They bought the timeshare, then a vacation club acquired the company, and they get the perks of both. Keep in mind they bought it years ago, so the initial investment was low. No clue what they runnow.

Wide range of timeshare options. Do your research and find what fits for you if you do it. We bought in about 15 years ago near Disney. Initial investment took about 6 years to break even based on what a typical rental would cost. We now go on 2 week long vacations a year. Maintenance fee is $750 per year and 2 trades is $260 ($129 per trade since we never go to our actual unit on our actual week). So for 2 weeks a year, I pay $500 per week for a condo with 2-3 bedrooms. You must plan ahead 12-18 months. You will not get popular spots 6 months out. We plan for ski vacations one year ahead.

My parents bought a time share after they went to one of those seminar things for free tickets to Dollywood. It was ridiculously expensive, and they ended up getting rid of it.

I can't think of one pro. In fact when someone mentions they have a timeshare somewhere, I automatically lose all respect for them.

A timeshare is usually one place. A vacation club is several places. Buying in on a beach condo in flordia doesn't allow you to go to other places.

why do people voluntarily put themselves in situations like this?

esp with airbnb/homeway etc time sharing is mindblowingly dumb

You buy a timeshare at one location. If that location is owned/ran by a corporate company, you trade to other locations.
