Are you in touch with an attorney?

As an RN I would say the empty IV bag would have had nothing to do with your son’s passing. My heart is breaking for you.

My cousin is an attorney here in Houston. Her firm recommended we contact a specific firm here in Houston who only take select cases. That firm has taken my son’s case.

There isn't anything harder than losing a child. Godspeed brother. It will get better but never easier.

Red, How long did it take for your small child received a full bag of fluids?

We are just waiting now and hoping the coroners office can provide us answers to what happened. We were told it could take a month or longer for the investigation to be finished.

They had kept him there for 6 hours when this happened and the doctor had just asked to keep him another 6 to 8 hours. We don’t understand why. He was sitting up in the bed drinking fluids and eating gummy bears just a few hours before everything went wrong. His pediatrician is telling me his tests were all normal and that there was no reason to be treating him.

I’m just curious if it was some sort of allergic reaction, maybe the wrong meds given

Sounds like to me the doctor realized there was something up and wanted to keep him there longer for observation.

About a year ago, my elderly mother went to the ER and was giving too much fluids too fast and it literally almost drowned her. It all went straight to her lungs. That made her go into congestive heart failure and had to be treated with high levels of fluid pills for 4 days.

I hope you get the answers you need. Still praying for you.

I have family in the medical field and each of them has said the same things.

Wrong medication
Too much medication
Air embolism
The IV was inserted in his little artery instead of his vein

Thoughts and prayers are with you OP and have been since you posted this.

For you and your family's sake I really do hope this doesn't turn out to be negligence on part of the doctor or hospital. To lose your son and now deal with that as the aftermath will take strength that I cannot comprehend. But know that Texas has some of the worst medical malpractice limits out there. So while you won't be able to hurt them financially, hopefully you can go after their licenses and reputation. Was this one of the big hospitals in the med center?

I have my son's medical records and more information now. He went into cardiac arrest or asytole as the report says. The ER doctor mentions the comment my wife made about air being in his IV and she goes on to say "Frankly, I am confused about the series of events leading to his death". This was the ER doctor and not the same doctor who had been treating him when he went into arrest.
