What supplies would you need the most?

Would it be worse in July or January?

Over half this board endures a hurricane on a yearly basis. This isn't a scenario...this has been a near reality.

Everyone all at once for a month would be a disaster.

Biggest hit will be potable water. If the electric grid goes down, there will be no way for public water sources to be maintained. That will be total chaos, so prepare to be able to purify your own water. That leads to firewood, coal, etc. How will you be able to boil water and cook food? Gas plants, etc may not be operable so those gas stoves won’t do you any good during that time.

I would rather July than january

Exactly. There would be no help coming.

Correct.

Backup generators would be useless.

Do we get any notice or does the power just go off?

If I don’t have any notice, I’ll be lucky to live through it if I’m being honest.

Granted, it would be pure chaos if there was notice

Unless you are already away from civilization and off the grid, you would be affected in a major way. People in cities would be totally screwed. We don't have any backup infrastructure for a sustained power outage affecting millions of people.

Ummmm....a good lawyer for when the FBI, CIA, NSA, ATF, and Barney Fife show up to ask you why you are posting about this.

For the record. It wasn't me that posted this response. I was HACKED!

We did 13 days without power after Gustav. I'd much rather do that in January than July in this part of the country. Maybe not in Northern Minnesota but it would have made it far more tolerable if it wasn't so hot. It's not like it's usually 10 degrees here in January or anything.

yep. Never evacuated for Katrina. Lost power and didn’t get it back for an entire month. We stayed at home the entire time with a generator. In fact went back to school before we even had power restored. Good times.

I'm in the Air Force so I'd go to the base. We'd have power and food.
