People get way too butthurt over anything mildly political ending up in the OT.

not carrying at least $20-40 cash as an adult is irresponsible

Honesty. Thats what I tell myself.
You don't give a shite either, but you're programmed to virtue signal. It gets you nowhere.

why?
Precisely. The only place I utilize cash is the weed shop.

My dad gave me a $100 bill when I turned 15 and said "Keep this. Don't spend it. $100 cash can get you out of a bad situation quickly if ever needed. Cash is king"

I can't think of one, unless I desperately needed weed.
My FFL only takes cash, but I use them once a year or less.

Over the years -
Gave it to someone who helped put my boat on the trailer when I threw my back out while fishing.
Paid tow truck driver in cash.
Paid restaurant bill on a date when debit card was declined (fraudulent charges lock).
Paid taxi cab cash when drunk me lost my credit card in New Orleans.

Since the whole part of this thread is to post an unpopular opinion, what do you think could have happened that led to the death in that manner?
I think Till probably scared the crap out of some redneck who shot him. Had the matter gone to trial, it would have hinged on the question of whether what happened was self defense or manslaughter.
It's quite possible the killer was a big pussy, and further possible that he found the whistling / lynching story more palatable than the actual truth (as perverse as that sounds to us in 2022).
In any case, I think we fetishize victims too much in present-day America. I have felt this way for a long time.
You may remember how some media goon ambushed Michael Dukakis with a hypothetical question about his wife getting raped and murdered and how that would affect his positions. I think it was at a presidential debate. Well, I was a little kid, and even then I realized that was horse shite. That opened my eyes to the fetishization of victims that I'm talking about, and since then I notice it everywhere. I think this victim-worship, e.g. the fact that we're spending any energy at all on Emmett Till, would seem profoundly alien to most people from other times and cultures, but it's become inherent to our culture and it's corrosive.

Uber or Venmo.
Cash in 2023 is for drugs or lottery tickets.

I agree that having a little bit of cash handy is a good idea. I use a card in every single instance that I can. However, you never know when the card machine at a store or restaurant might be down, there might be a problem with your card, etc. It’s just good to have enough cash handy that you could cover a meal or buy some gas with cash if you had to.

Or maids and lawn guys. There is a donut shop I frequent that also takes 10% off if you pay cash

No kids in sports, aye?
Baseball tournaments (concessions) alone will turn $20 bills into dust.
