Pouring one out for your mom giving up her sweet ride for a mom-mobile.

I rode the bus to school. Had the same driver from 1st grade until I started driving myself there. Woman was old and crazy, but I gave her more shite than she deserved.

When I did get dropped off it was in a maroon Intrepid

Mainly rode the bus, but most of my childhood we had 2 1980 Olds Delta 88's. My mom drove the coupe one, looked like this but in a light bluish/ gray color with a blue interior. Had the color-matched Rallye wheels too:

Had a 307 V8 with a TH-350. Learned to drive in that car - burned a quart of oil every 300 miles the whole time we owned it.
Dad drove the more hoopty-ish one, a maroon 4-door with the smaller V8 and broken AC. This looks almost exactly like it, down to the wheel covers - but his driver-sside mirror wasn't broken.

I rode the bus but if I was fortunate enough to convince her I was sick enough to get picked up

Must be Oldsmobile day.

She rarely drove us, but when she did it was in this, faded yellow, dents, rust.

Later it was this:

This. 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser Wagon, with the 455 Rocket engine. Ours was burgundy on top and wood grain on the bottom, but standard wheels, not mags.

You could burn rubber at 35-40mph if you floored it.

Later on, when the gas crisis hit, she got this. Almost the exact color. I was in high school and mortified.

Red 1979 dodge magnum w/ T-tops

Remember my parents saying it was a special order that wasn’t picked up (reason for T-tops) that they got a good deal on.

Damn.

I’m not feeling so old now.

The old man came back from WWII in late ‘46 (Occupation in Japan) and needed a car.

As you know, we stopped building domestic cars during the war, everything old was worn out and new cars were tough to get as the auto manufacturers couldn’t build them fast enough.

An Army buddy’s family had a Chevrolet dealership in some podunk Pennsylvania town, he called up there and got a new Stylemaster from them. He kept it six or seven years.

Looked like the dark red one.
