Police in Massachusetts uncover an underground hookah bar and nightclub

Lawrence, MA police uncovered what officials alleged Tuesday was an “illegal night club” with an estimated 100 people in attendance. Officers responded to the area of Springfield and Foster streets after receiving a report of loud music, police said in a statement.

While conducting their search, police noticed a “large amount of foot traffic heading in the direction of a Springfield Street address,” officials said. “Upon further investigation, the officers observed an ‘illegal night club,’ complete with a waitress and full bar,” police said. An estimated 100 people were present at that location.

“In addition to the city ordinance violation, the Lawrence Fire Department was asked to respond to the scene as there were charcoal Hookahs and external propane heaters being used inside the residence,” police added.

The matter is still under investigation by the city’s police, fire, and inspection services departments. The Board of Health is also probing the case for COVID-19 regulation violations.
