fox reported 60+ people aboard. Well at least the senator who texted hannity.

That aircraft could have 65 passengers and 4 crew if completely full.

Plus possibly one jumpseat and any babies in laps.

Yep Bolling and the Navy Yard are on the other side of the river. Andrews is 8 miles east.

It's going to be hard to survive. They hit the water at 150 mph, maybe inverted. The water temp is 42 degrees so if you survive the impact you have to get out while dealing with that shock to the system. Most people would be trapped in the wreckage. Your only hope is sitting near a fracture point. Being at night makes it that much harder.

Someone you know on that flight?

Not that I know of right now. Not completely out of the realm of possibility though. The school I teach at has a lot of kids of parents with upper level/government positions.

Either way just sucks knowing there’s people here that are going to be hurting for a while.

Well if someone had to die, I don’t think it’s bad to wish it upon the single worst people in humanity who are responsible for thousands to millions of deaths. No one shed a tear when the Iranian President crashed and died last year for instance.

Relax.

Where is Trump tonight?? Isn’t Marine 1 a Blackhawk??

The designation 1 is whatever aircraft the president happens to be flying on at the time. Air Force 1, Coast Guard 1, etc. If he flies on a civilian aircraft it's Executive 1.

I'm thinking the same unfortunately. Those CRJ-700s are tight in the cabin so even if you survive the initial impact with the water you've got to find your way out of any exit in frigid water.

I'm hoping at least someone survives this but how many of us have our shoes off, taking a nap after the crew has done their final cleaning before landing and turned the lights back off?

Marines don't fly Blackhawk helicopters. US Park Service, USAF, and the Army in and around DC. The Pentagon has a shuttle service that flies all around DC

This happened long enough ago that there would be video of people being brought to the bank by now.

The irony is the same thread on the poli board is less political than this thread.

Yeah who was on the helicopter is a secondary, but potentially significant question i suppose

And we should hope this was not intentional.

Coast Guard choppers fly up and down the Potomac all day, but I’ve never seen them get that close to DCA.

Yeah, I have flown that approach dozens of times and have seen choppers proximate to the approach many times but never in the path - obvious human error.
