If you had to live in either one, which would you choose? Both are somewhat underrated Rust Belt cities that have been losing population for decades. Both are hilly, have resurging downtowns, suffer harsh winters, and are die-hard sports towns. Both have some rough areas although Cincy has Pittsburgh beat in the hood department. I gotta go with Pittsburgh because it seems more walkable and western Pennsylvania is a beautiful part of the country.

Cincinnati...it’s population is actually growing. Grew in the last census. Lots of reinvestment going.

If you're a drinker, Pennsylvania's blue laws are a no-go.

Both are great cities with plenty to do. Good for singles or families.

Drove through Cincy once and it's downtown looked cool af. Never been to Pitt but know some people from there/lived there and they had nothing bad to say about it. Pitt's skyline is also cool af. That is a tough choice if you had to pick between the two with no external motivating factors like job or family.

Both cities seem equally good as far as quality of life and things to do. If that’s the case then pick the one with the better weather.

I lived in Cincy during the early 00's. It's a nice place and the winters aren't too bad compared to most of the Midwest. Lots of nice people. It's funny because most of the people I knew considered themselves southerners (I guess since it borders Kentucky).

Never been to Pittsburgh.

I have however spent a lot of time in Cincinnati and it is a great city. Lots of things to do there if you are single or married with kids. If your a sports fan you have the Bengals and the Reds. Over the Rhine is really cool area not far from downtown.

Pittsburgh is one of the most underrated cities in the US.

I’ve only been to Cincinnati once and was not impressed. But it was a cold gray winter weekend, so may not have given it a fair shake.

Been in Pitt for about 6 years now. Best place I’ve ever lived. Great people, lots to do. definitely growing in tech, healthcare, O&G, finance.

I love it there

The only reason I wouldn't say Pittsburgh is that it's probably more Yankee. Weird accent, Pennsylvania Dutch... that kind of shite. That said, it's still probably a toss-up. Pittsburgh has a lot going for it.

Agree completely. Great downtown and higher ground (Mt. Washington) overlooking it. Nice neighborhoods, two great universities, a couple museums, and lots of early 20th century spawned industrial money. Winter can be cold.

Lived in Pittsburgh. Spent a lot of time in Cincy for work.

I would give the edge to Cincy, but it’s close. Pittsburgh and western PA really are beautiful. But the food and the people are marginally better in Cincy.

Easier choice would be Columbus. That’s the best city in Ohio.

It’s become that since Pittsburgh became low key cool. Far more in common with the east coast cities than the Midwest now.

And that’s a big drawback in my book.

Haven't lived in Cincinnati but Pittsburgh isn't a bad place by any means. It's very different from the South- some neighborhoods that look nice are not, and some neighborhoods that look bad are very nice (at least from a Birmingham-centric perspective). PGH has everything you could ask from a major city though and this: (having been to Cincy multiple times)

quote:

Cincy has Pittsburgh beat in the hood department

is absolutely true.

Yeah, I hear thee... you could say that about closer places than Pittsburgh, sadly.
