When he finally dies that will be awesome.
He descrated all the monuments and memories of these men. Desecrating his grave seems appropriate.

Pretty much but that doesn't fit the narrative. They don't want people to realize that a white man actually endorsed equal rights after the war and was looked down upon by the confederacy to some degree. The goal here is to increase racial tension and further divide, not solve it. It has and will continue to be their main power play.

What would it take for the next mayor to put them back?
I doubt anyone would put them back up. No politician would be willing to be known as the mayor that put the racist statues back up.

Its a damn shame that a beautiful statue was taken down and all thats left is a damaged pedestal.
Take down a work of art; leave an eyesore where it once stood.
Seems about right.

Perhaps a rich OT baller will donate a replica of this guy and tell everyone it's a tribute to "an old friend".
They will never know the difference.

Empty pedestal will be there for years and just an eyesore.
I guarantee that a press release from City Hall will address that issue. In summary it will say that pedestal in on City Park property and it's their problem. Probably fine them somehow also.

My goodness! How did that damage happen? Was it an accidental thing when they took down the statue or did they intentionally damage it to wipe out the name etc on the front of the pedestal?

Intentional to remove the name.
Then they just left it like that.
And you know it's going to stay like that for some time. Maybe even years.
It looks like complete and utter shite. A great reminder of Mitch Landrieu. A complete pile of shite.
The city will no doubt say it isn't their problem

Now a monument to " MITCH LANDREU NOLA". Perfectly blends in with all the potholes and dereliction.

Can city park or the monumental task force file suit against the city for leaving that pedestal in that condition? Blighted property? A public nuisance? Criminal damage to public property?
City Park just got Bitch slapped.
City Park just got Bitch slapped.

Jesus Christ. That is utterly incredible.

City Park filed a lawsuit to say both the monument and land were private property.
The court through the case out without even looking at it, it got appealed, Mitch said he would wait 30 days, and then took it down within 24hrs of that statement.
Yes, they can file a suit. No it won't do anything.

City Park just got Bitch slapped.
The citizens and the idea of democracy just got Bitch slapped by facism. Mitch unilaterally decided to use public funds to vandalize private property and steal private art work off of private property that was the current subject of both litigation and legislation.
Let that sink in. Let that gravity of Mitch's actions sink in.
It's actually a fantastic microcosm of the Civil War.
It's not the monuments id fight mitch and those protesters over. It's the ideals they support that clash with my own.

Then they just left it like that.
They couldn't come up with a better way to deal with the identification on the statue without obliterating the pedestal? And, it had to be taken off right at that moment without thought to the eyesore they were leaving at the entrance of a nice city park area?
They couldn't have sanded it down?
Someone with a little sense could have planned what was to be placed in those locations prior to taking down the statues and, at the very least, had that in place to replace the statues so the areas are not ugly for any meaningful period of time. Someone who truly cared about the look of the city and it's citizens could have planned this carefully to avoid such dramatic eyesores.
Its one thing to take them down. Its another to leave an ugly void. It's a travesty to leave what looks like gang damage.
