You need to read the book Prey by Michael Crichton.

Obviously I'm not an anti-vaxer....but I was skeptical of this R&D effort as well so I did some research. There are some of the smartest people in the world using the most high tech processes ever used for vaccine development on this particular vaccine. The person mobilization for this R&D effort was insane....if we could do this for other industries like computer technology it would be amazing what we could develop.

It is remarkable. It is one of the greatest achievements in human history and our retarded (meant literally) population is saying they won't take it even after 10s of thousands of trial patients and likely 10s of millions of "at risk" folks will have taken it before they're up for their shots.

Pitiful.

The company counted 170 cases of coronavirus infection among volunteers who took part in the trial. It said 162 infections were in people who got placebo, or plain saline shots, while eight cases were in participants who got the actual vaccine. That works out to an efficacy of 95%, Pfizer said.

Except that the study design that I previously read didn’t expose all volunteers to the virus directly (which is pretty critical in a design like this), and it didn’t expose them 6 months from the date of onset or a year later to determine if the immunity waned.

Until we can invent time travelling things like this will probably be on a back burner when developing a vaccine for release in basically 6 months total.

So just plan on getting a booster until that data is available...

If I'm not mistaken Mr. Crichton came into his fame and fortune writing fictional accounts correct?

They couldn't have Moderna having a higher percentage than them

Generally I am a fan of competition breeding success. But this is a race simply to be first to meet an artificial demand. A race that for so many other viruses is a lengthy and arduous process....for a reason.

In 1976 we had a Swine Flu outbreak. One that was loosely compared by the Gov and media to the 1918 Spanish Flu outbreak (sound familiar?) The FedGOV went ALL IN on creating a vaccine ASAP. Within about 9 months a vaccine was created and there was a big media/government push for mass vaccination. The POTUS was on TV getting the vaccine. About two months later word cam that people started developing Guillain-Barré syndrome likely as a result. The government's vaccination program was suspended, then eventually discontinued.

Someone mentioned the 1st polio vaccine earlier.....it floors me that people don't realize the technological advances from the 1950s to today.

The technological advances that let them make a potentially far more harmful vaccine?

I’m just messing with you. I would certainly hope they’re better now.

I don’t trust a damn bit of those vaccines. There’s a group trying to get volunteers for a 26 month Novavax vaccine study at my hospital where 2 out of 3 get the vaccine and the 3rd gets a Placebo?

Sounds like they aren’t sure if it works and want to observe the side effects between people that get the vaccine and people that get the placebo.

From what I understand Novavax is a bit behind Moderna and Pfizer in their testing. I also believe that Novavax as of yet hasn't had the volunteer pool for the study that Pfizer and Moderna have....although I'd question your distrust. I understand it, but I'd suggest doing some research before you make a hard and fast decision. If after the research you come to the same decision...then so be it.

Or, perhaps, the people who don't want to take it are choosing not to do so because they don't perceive the "reward" POTENTIAL protection from a virus that carries a less than 1/2 of 1% risk of death outweighs the risk (it will still be a largely unproven vaccine on a mass scale).

That is a decision that you have to weigh for yourself....I don't necessarily disagree with that decision. I'm of the mind that this thing needs to run its course anyway and that if we never have had any shutdowns, phases, etc we would be a helluva lot better off now than we are.

However, to suggest that the pharma companies are somehow lying to the public about safety or efficacy doesn't make any sense to me.
