I no longer drink but I liked the Canadian blends on the rocks back in the day
Windsor, Canadian club or the exquisite Black Velvet really tied the room together in the formative years.

Not reading 9 pages worth but Johnny Walker Blue for the win.
I can't tell the difference in Blue and Black. My wallet can but I can't. When I had access to BXs and PXs I drank a LOT of Blue because it was way less expensive...but if you poured me a double of black and double of blue I doubt I could tell the difference. JW is pretty tasty no matter the color of the bottle. It is my go to blend...

You’re supposed to cut it with a little water. Not much. Just enough to take the edge off.

Not a whiskey drinker, but yes, the average none whiskey drinker would. A bourbon hobbiest would drink 130 proof jack daniels barrel proof like it's tea
I think non-whiskey drinkers don’t understand that you eventually get used to it, and you can sip 130 proof whiskey like it’s hot coffee or something.
I know it probably doesn’t make a ton to sense, but I drink barrel proof whiskey regularly with no reaction, but I would probably gag trying to drink 80 proof vodka. That shite definitely tastes like rubbing alcohol.

I'm sure it has been said, but it's an acquired taste like ANY alcohol that isn't a sugary mixed drink.
Just because you spent 100 bucks doesn't mean it's one you'd like You have to figure OUT what you like to know that.
Truth. I suffered from the idea that the older the better despite having experience that indicated this was not always the case....it is really easy now with flights to find stuff you like. Back in the day it meant buying it by the glass in a bar or buying it by the bottle...both are over priced or may cause one to think it is all bad. I started drinking Old Grandad when I was a kid because my uncle and grand dad drank it and it was available. I would have given it up had I not found Jack Daniels. Then my step dad drank scotch and I found my home LOL. no there are multiple opportunities for anyone interested to sample a bunch of whiskey...and they are all distinct and different.

Blue is very underwhelming for the price, the 200th anniversary blue label is a bit better though
My favorite scotch currently is the Dalmore King Alexander III. The price on that has skyrocketed over the last year though

A lot of people not familiar with the bourbon world expect more out of the allocated bottles as well because of the $$$ and because what they hear about it
For instance Weller 12, you can go online right now and see secondary prices between $200-$275, that's a $40 MSRP bottle

Had a few neat Crown Blacks over the weekend. Pleasantly pleased. She's a nice sipper.

If you take a fifth of cheap scotch and put a shot glass of good sherry in it, it's almost like an 18 year old MacAllen.

Price doesn't make it good. I've had cheap stuff the was great and expensive that was shite. Besides, everyone has different tastes... Try others.

Love me some bourbon. I have plenty of bottles from $30 up to several hundred.
I drink 4R SIB or Heaven Hill as a “daily” drinker. They are $50 or less. Even Elijah Craig is only $30. (I might have a glass or two a week though)

The mood has to hit me to drink it straight. I’ll still take it on the rocks usually. My normal go-to is an Old Fashioned. I also like a good Mint Julep. I also will have an occasional bourbon & coke if the mood hits me.

get your hands on al old grandad 114 or an early times bottle in bond for $25 and that will straight smack the piss out of bottles in the 450-$60 range

Worked with a dude a several years ago that was a nice guy but a TOTAL scotch snob. When we would go out to dinner on the company tab, he would order a shot of top shelf scotch and pull this little spoon out of his pocket to measure the correct amount of water to add to it.
Me, I would order a double shot of Wild Turkey 101 on the rock and enjoy without all the stress of measuring.
