I mean, at least put some water or ice in there to open it up. Sipping a good bourbon/whisky straight is pretty dumb.

I love how in the movies, they’ll pour a couple of glasses of bourbon straight out of a decanter, neat and drink it like it’s nothing.

No coughing, wincing or anything. Like drinking water.

Most people will look like this after drinking straight, room temp whiskey.

I don't like watered down whiskey. I like my whiskey and my scotch neat.
To each his own, but frick that. It’s just too strong, especially room temperature. It’s like drinking gasoline.

And I like bourbon. But not neat. Occasionally I’ll drink it on the rocks.

Trying Elijah Craig Barrel Strength and saying "how do people drink this stuff" like drinking a hop bomb IPA and saying all beer sucks.

Not a whiskey drinker, but yes, the average none whiskey drinker would. A bourbon hobbiest would drink 130 proof jack daniels barrel proof like it's tea

The only way to explain this thinking is lots of Elton John concerts.

This is one of the easier allocateds to find, at least in the nola/metry area.

the only one easier to find right now is probably mckenna 10

they are available enough here that I pass on them just about every time, unless the eagle rare is priced $30 or below

You would love a found north batch

18-26 year blended Canadian whiskey. About $150 though, which honestly is pretty good for whiskey that old

It doesn't take long. I drank bourbon mixed for 35 years or so. I rarely drink it mixed now, and I prefer it neat. Very tiny sips to enjoy the variety of flavors. If you start low proof and safe, the transition is amazing.

Whiskey is good over ice. If this thread was about an IPA I would agree. People only drink them to feel entitled as a beer snob.

You don’t need a $100 bottle of whiskey to mix with coke. I drink a lot of good bourbons neat and been doing it for a long time. I actually prefer it that way.

I have had people ask me this before and it always begs the question why do they care what I drink?

Depending on the time and place I generally prefer a single ice cube...as it melts all brown water, in my experience, improves immensely. I was told once that the chemical that gives whiskey its smokiness will rise to the top of a pour and ice or a small amount of water will force that chemical throughout the drink. All I know is that just a small ice cube makes it better, for me, as it melts. If the weather is really cold though and I am outside I prefer it neat.

Anyone who finds Crown Royal, the original CR not any of the concoctions they sell today, too harsh neat they simply do not care for brown water...and there is nothing in the world wrong with that. Different strokes and all...I can't stand any mixer that is sweet...can't stand it...and really do not have a cocktail that I'd order...just Glenlivet 12 and a single ice cube, a double, and I am good to go. I won't have original Crown Royal around the place...it is too damned cheap and too damned easy to drink to have on hand all of the time.

Bourbon is a acquired taste just like anything else. I have always been a tequila guy and still consider myself that. But I do enjoy bourbon as well now.

I mean, how many people took their first swig of beer and said, "that is great"? I guess not many

I drank so much bourbon as a child I can barely tolerate it today. I do like single malts and blended whiskeys though. For the un-initiated good tequila can be as smooth and tasty as the finest brown waters I have ever found...way to many cacti wind up in a blender to the detriment of mankind...

I have often drank it strait, but lately with a splash of fresh lemon and ginger over ice has been nice.

With coke or sprite? Grow up.
Maybe if i was hanging out at Sports on a Thurs night.

I don't drink my whiskey like a female. Gentlemen Jack straight or on ice.
