The Buzz Aldrin: American Icon auction by Sotheby's in New York will take place on July 26 and includes pieces such as the NASA jacket he wore to the moon and back during Apollo 11, which has an estimated value between $1 million and $2 million. Other items in the personal collection include Aldrin's famous "Go Army, Beat Navy" banner exposed to the vacuum of space during his 1966 Gemini XII spacewalk as well as "mission-flown" documents that were key to completing the mission.

Among the Earth-related accolades up for sale are an MTV VMA award statuette — the "Original Moonman" presented to Aldrin in 1984 — and his Presidential Medal of Freedom.

"This collection is a summation of my career as an astronaut, from my studies at West Point, to my first EVA during Gemini XII, to humankind's first lunar landing on Apollo 11 where we planted the American flag and a bit beyond," Aldrin said in a statement. "After deep consideration, the time felt right to share these items with the world, which for many are symbols of a historical moment, but for me have always remained personal mementos of a life dedicated to science and exploration."

How much is a jacket worth that went to Stanley Kubrick's studio?

Gotta love Buzz.

He punched a guy who said the moon landing was fake.

Palmetto98 will be here shortly to tell us that this jacket was only worn in the Arizona desert at night.

Imagine being on Apollo 11; 250,000 miles from home, trying to land the lunar lander with 20 seconds of fuel , knowing that if something goes wrong, the plan is to turn off the radio and let you die there. Those guys had onions!

Truth.

The photo evidence is clear. I wish NASA would admit it. Nothing to lose 50 years later.

They can send a man to the moon, but they can't fix that man's eye?

If it was fake then the Soviets would have called that out decades ago, it’s amazing how dumb some people are at times
