Definitely document everything and try to tape phone calls. You don’t want them to be able to claim they told you the bike was there, they were storing it for a fee, and you never came to get it. They’ll try to nail you with storage fees from the date they told you if nothing else.

I’d just go straight to the PD, say your bike was stolen and these assholes have it.

Or for a better thread, get some td baws to roll up and get it and keep us posted....

Yeah I really am asking for irl here at this point. I’ve contacted 3 attorneys who either haven’t been able to help me or referred me to someone who hasn’t been able to help me. I have near 0 time, but I do have the money to fight it. I just can’t make it out there to retrieve it myself within the next few weeks. I’m basically offering it for free to anyone in the area who is willing to go try and pick it up.

I didn’t think there was a legit attempt at extortion until this letter, but like I said, I have been unsuccessful in getting someone to take the case. So if any MS lawyer is reading this and willing or any person is willing for me to authorize them to pick it up, I can set up an email where we can get the ball rolling.

C'mon boys. Someone in MS or with a truck/trailer help right this injustice.

A quick search says this bike sells for $4k to $6k right now.

Tell them you will pay the fees, etc they are requesting (verbally).

While on the way over there, call the cops and tell them you are retrieving your motorcycle and have them meet you over there.

Bring documentation showing ownership, etc.

Pay them dogshit.

Leave with motorcycle.

Lowndes County or Columbus PD ought to be able to help you out with this, assuming you can get someone there to pick the bike up for you. It’s a big enough county that there *shouldnt* be THAT much nepotism going on. I’d love to do it just to see the look on those shitbags faces, but both my wife and i drive cars and have no trailers in our possession.

That’s what I thought too. I called the Colombus PD handling the case and asked, if I show up with the police report and identification, would you require them to give me the bike and he basically said “idk.” Like how do you not know? You’re going to be the one making the decision?

That's not too far from Tuscaloosa, huh? We've got to have someone around there that can go get the bike and tell these thieves to get bent.

Good idea. State and Bama are like 85 miles apart, so that’d put Columbus and Tuscaloosa about 65 miles or so apart

If you did not authorize the repairs, how can you be held liable for the bill? Seems like you should be able to take back legal possession of your property.

Yep. In between State and Tuscaloosa. I tried contacting Lowndes county sheriff's department and was given a number to the investigator who I left a voicemail with and (of course) never heard back.

Just go to the PD station and have someone go out there with you.
Just dealt with this situation yesterday.

Exactly. Put them on the defensive... throw out the idea that they may have stolen it (or is working with the thieves) and now they are trying to scam you even further by holding your stolen property hostage by attempting to fraudulently charge you for repairs that you didn’t authorize. The burden is on them to produce a work order that you signed agreeing to the repairs. They of course don’t have that. You have no agreement with them what so ever and thus owe them nothing.

It’s tantamount to coming home from work one day with a new roof on your house that you didn’t order and the foreman threatening you with a workman’s lien if you don’t pay him $20K for a new roof. It’s absurd.

Go to the police or DA with the attitude that these people are scamming you and quit talking to them without a detective and/or lawyer involved.

I might be able to go get it Friday. I have meetings scheduled but I might be able to push them. I’m in NOLA but I think I’d make the trip. I HATE this kind of folks that do this stuff and really enjoy sticking it to them.

The problem is, I’m not sure if they’d release your bike to a third party.

Agreed. You not showing up in person will make it difficult.

Why haven't you filed police complaint, I would have accused THEM of the theft day one.
