Hi.. Got a question.. Know I am screwed but gonna ask anyway.

My GF has an auto policy with Progressive.

The bill was due 12-8-20. The bill was sent e-mail.

On Dec 31, 2020 she noticed she did not receive a bill or make a payment. She contacted progressive and was told that her policy was cancelled on 12-28-2020.

She got a quote for a new policy and it was DOUBLE the price.

Today in the mail 1-9-2021, She received a Cancellation Notice that the policy would Cancel on 12-28-20. Two weeks after the fact.

The letter was dated as mailed on 12-14-20 but no post mark on the envelope.

I know it was the Holidays and covid... But this is a little unfair.

Is there any recourse here... Progressive people are just going by standard police when we call.. Either the new doubled police or so long pal.

I think the bigger problem is your GF isn’t able to manage basic bills

Worse yet if she's in Louisiana the DMV has the cancellation and her license is automatically suspended which will cost additional fines and penalties.

Best thing that could have happened to her. Find new insurance. Progressive is shite auto insurance.

They are required to keep a proof of mailing for cancellation notices. If they can’t produce one, she may have a chance. It would likely need to be filed as a complaint through the DOI to get them to produce the proof of mailing.

They canceled 20 days later because you typically have a grace period at renewal.

I received a notice of a bill due in the mail yesterday that was dated December 14. I had already paid bill.

Thats the gray area.. On the notice it says,, Date of Notice 12-14-2020...

Cancellation 12-28-2020

Letter Recieved 1-9-2021

Spoke to Progressive 12-31-2020.. That when we first found this out.

Does she have a local agent?
I know when stuff like this happens at my office (rare, bc we text, call, email when bills are past due) we can sign a notice of no loss and reinstate without lapse, generally within 30 days.

It’s been a while since I did property & casualty but I believe you have 10 days after the due date and then they can cancel you in Louisiana. I may be wrong though. Like I said, it’s been a while since my P&C days.

Its crazy that it can be set to auto draft, yet people wait for some sort of reminder.

OP...shes fricking lying, you dolt. She knew damn well it was due and dried to get iver in them because notice wasn't mailed. You probably told her they wouldn't cancel during covid.

This was NOT a mistake

Imo this is a case of double jeopardy. So now that she would be fined by the dmv she wont be ticketed by law enforcement? States have gotten too greedy.
