Marlin High School reschedules graduation ceremony after only 5 of 33 seniors found eligible to graduate.
MARLIN, Texas (KWTX) - BREAKING: Marlin High School on Wednesday announced its high school graduation will be rescheduled for June to give more than two dozen seniors more time to meet requirements to graduate.
KWTX recently learned 28 of 33 seniors at the school did not meet graduation requirements due to attendance or grades.
The school district announced a mandatory senior parent meeting today at 6:30 p.m. at Marlin High School.
“We hold firm to our belief that every student in Marlin ISD can and will achieve their potential. We maintain high expectations, not as an imposition, but as a show of faith in our students’ abilities. As we navigate these challenges, one thing is clear: students in Marlin ISD will be held to the same high standard as any other student in Texas,” said Marlin ISD Superintendent Dr. Darryl Henson.
Seniors Praiyer Jones and Alondra Alvarado are among the five that the district says met graduation eligibility requirements.
”They told us that because of the students that didn’t meet the requirements it wouldn’t be fair for only five students to walk the stage,” Alvarado said.
Senior Salvador Guerro is one of the 28 seniors who was told he is not eligible to graduate, hearing the news just days before the previously scheduled graduation.

Who wants to bet the school will cave and give these retards a diploma?

Whatever. Hope as many as possible learn a lesson and do the work needed to graduate.
Real world is just as unforgiving. If you don't do the required work, you don't get the reward.

The school also looks like dipshits for not realizing this until now
Fair to say a max of 5 of them are going to college. Unless they were going to some for-profit shithole

Who cares? Printing a diploma is cheaper than housing and feeding these dumbfcks for another year.

Aren’t there counselors that make sure students are on track and meeting requirements? It shouldn’t be a surprise before right graduation ceremonies that a student hasn’t met minimum graduation criteria, let alone 28 students and 85% of the class. Someone dropped the ball here besides the “retards” as someone posted.

This is that school administration’s failure. How the hell did they not know that that many people were in danger of not graduating until immediately before graduation?

Being short an elective hour and not being able to graduate should be blamed solely on the administration. When I was in high school there was a week every year where every student would meet with an administrator and basically choose their classes for the next year so that we would have enough credits to graduate.

Good on the district for holding the students to their standards. Feels like something that should’ve been dealt with before now though

I wonder what would happen to this country if (urban) schools had to fail people who deserve to fail.

Having worked in an upper middle class school, we had 100% graduation rate. How you ask? They just waived the requirements and administrators changed teacher grades. We would have had 95% or so graduate anyway, but the administration couldn’t take the heat.
