I spend more time with my kid than any father I've ever known. And he just won a World Championship in Taekwondo, so it felt like a suitable reward. Seriously - have you ever seen a world champ in a Honda Accord?

You bought a 15yr old a freaking brand new Mustang GT?

it'll be totaled within 6 months, book it

My grandmother made this same mistake with my older brother. She bought him a mint condition 69 Mustang Fastback for his 16th birthday. It had a 351 Windsor and would freaking fly. It was a beautiful car. Within a year the transmission was shot, engine was knocking, and the car in general was ragged out. And considering how he drove it, while it was still drivable, it's a miracle he didn't kill himself. He had it just over a year and sold it to some dude for about half what our grandmother gave for the car. He had to bring a tow truck to haul it away.

That's a lot of engine for a 15 year old.

I hope you have great auto and health insurance. I'm not trying to be a dick, but odds are not in your favor.

Congrats to him, how he stays safe.

It's because you are the leader of the "look at me" crew, you should just take it personally.

I figured it would be much safer - you don't want a 15 yr. old in something slow so he ends up getting hit pulling into traffic. You want to be able to respond to oncoming threats with ample acceleration.

The point is it's a huge mistake to buy a teen driver a powerful muscle car for their first automobile. Nothing good can come from it.

Apparently the car doesn't matter. His son was destined to be a douche.

And considering how many kids I knew who died racing in high school, I hope you at least sent him to a drivers ed program.

Woah, don't get defensive. I was talking about my kids. I don't see them that much because I don't really like them. Just wondering if a car could make up for that, thanks for offering zero advice on the matter.

Example: Before my divorce we got the oldest step a new Passat. Totaled it within 3 months. Was she hurt? No thank God, but she fricked it up for the other 3 younger kids I assure you.

You're a cool dad. Whatever. He loves the car. Whatever. Point is why even frick with it? Start him out with something he'll appreciate fricking up... like a 2006 4-Runner.
