Yeah, if you're fortunate enough to build your business around where rail spurs are located, that solves a lot of your logistics problems.

Our freight rail network is over capacity now, but it's not as bad as the trucking industry.

Can't say I have noticed a shortage of goods on shelves.
How did tariffs affect trucking?
Seems like a stretch to me.

Your opinion doesn't seem to be worth much around here.

Orders for class 8 trucks are down drastically

Year-to-date sales improved to 159,996 compared with 130,638 in the 2018 period.

U.S. Class 8 retail sales punched through to an all-time record high of nearly 29,000 in September, WardsAuto.com reported, but analysts cautioned against reading it as a turnaround.

Sales hit 28,258, according to Ward’s. That was 19.5% higher than a year earlier, when sales were 23,648.

All I know is that a order for something big and shipped from Ca has been delayed twice. It was suppose to be here a week ago. Thanks Amazon.

Forgive my stupid question - can you load a sea can straight onto rail? Is there a rail car chassis like you have for tractor trailers? I've never paid enough attention to notice.

Two at time, called pig trains since they are riding piggy back.

There are also Spine Cars, they just set the over the road trailers directly onto the car, they'll unload them at intermodal yards where they will be driven a much shorter distance to their final destination.

More accurately that is a COFC (container on flat car). Those are well cars and can be stacked two high but are height restricted so they can't run on all Class 1 lines. Single stacks are often on spine cars that run in articulated groups. Spine cars often carry TOFC (trailer on flat car) loads as well these are literally road vans loaded on spine cars.

Never heard of wardsauto but the numbers are flat wrong. Truck orders are down considerably.

Yeah, you can load intermodal containers straight onto railcars from the vessel at the port. You have to have either a 53' or 48' bay car. The railroads supply their own cars for most shippers so this isn't really an issue.

Hundreds of truckers stranded across the country after company shuts down

A source tells Eyewitness News that thousands of drivers are left jobless and stranded across the U.S. because company gas cards have been shut off. More than 500 administrative positions will also be eliminated.

"Mad is not the word. Pissed is not the word," said driver Melinda Lindsey.

While many Celadon drivers are being asked to return their truck in exchange for a bus ticket home, Lindsey and her husband lease their truck.

"If we lose our truck we've got to start all over. I'm 50 and he's 53. We can't afford to pay $80,000 again," she said.

After news surfaced of two former executives of Celadon were indicted by a grand jury, concerns about the company filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy ballooned into reality.

Amazing that you'd see a mere Ford Ranger at such a facility. Someone needs to make a die that you roll to pick a reason why at least a 3/4-ton is required.

ok, then I would be on the phone with all the other freight companies who are looking for owner operators.
