Well people keep teaching their kids the racial bs they were taught so it won't die off in our lifetimes or even our grandkids to be honest.

But it will get better.

Since the first sign was erected in 2008, it has been the object of repeated animosity. Vandals threw the first sign in the river. The second sign was blasted with 317 bullets or shotgun pellets before the Emmett Till Memorial Commission officials removed it. The third sign, featured in the Instagram photo, was damaged by 10 bullet holes before officials took it down last week. A fourth sign, designed to better withstand attacks, is expected to be installed soon.

Good. Keep replacing them. Don't let the asshats win. Outrageous that a child gets murdered because of someone lying and people are defacing the memorial sign.

None of us alive are to blame or were living under those conditions. Time to move on from that dead horse.

If they are offended by the picture wait until they see the Old South formal pictures of the entire fraternity and their dates dressed in Confederate regalia. I am personally not offended by either because I am not an idiot democrat.

There are a whole lot of backwoods trash in this thread. There’s a complete factionalism going on in some posters’ heads. This is quite disturbing

And what about segregation? 55% of blacks were living in poverty in 1959. How quickly is that supposed to rectify itself?

Citylab on racial disparities in subprime lending

quote:

Relative to comparable white applicants, and controlling for geographic factors, blacks were 2.8 times more likely to be denied for a loan, and Latinos were two times more likely. When they were approved, blacks and Latinos were 2.4 times more likely to receive a subprime loan than white applicants. The higher up the income ladder you compare white applicants and minorities, the wider this subprime disparity grows.

This wasn't back in Jim Crow, but 15 years ago.

You don't think there's anyone still alive who was living in 1964?

Hell, both my parents were alive then. I genuinely hope you're not advocating for separate but equal as true equality in 2019.

The breakdown of the nuclear family has gotten worse since the 60s. Single parent homes have increased among all races but black single parent homes far outpace whites. This is the single largest contributor to poverty in the US.

I read an interesting statistic from Thomas Sowell a few months ago that white and black kids born into two parent homes have about the same incarceration rates and career earnings.

I hope they can figure out how to make it so the bullet bounces right back to where it was fired.

1. You are talking solely about slavery. Guess what, people groups hold grudges. Go over to Eastern Europe and you can find people upset about things that happened centuries ago. Go to the Middle East and it’s millennia. Actions have consequences.

2. Black people were not equal under the law until about 50 years ago. Plenty of people alive from the era of Jim Crow, separate but equal, lynching, etc.

Situations like Emmitt Till and the 16th street church bombing, and the subsequent lack of of justice in those cases are alone enough that you shouldn’t expect black people to fully trust white people as long as those generations are still living. Again, actions have consequences.

Think about where they all started. If the 1960s are when equality started (debatable), blacks were more than 2.5x more likely to live in poverty. Poverty is largely the one connecting factor to all of the other issues, and blacks were given quite an unfortunate head start in that respect.

To be clear, I'm not advocating for anything other than time. If half of our grandparents were living in poverty, I'd be willing to bet the numbers would look very similar.

It did say they were replacing it with something more damage resistant.

You know segregation ended in our lifetimes? You think the transfer/even distribution of wealth ever happened? Black people and minorities struggle to rise because good ole boys exist. They can try as hard as they can, but they will never make it up.

And this had solely to do on race and not other factor such as debt/income ratio, credit rating, etc...?

If blacks and Latinos are that much more affected by that than comparable white people, then that’s pretty telling, too, no?
