Their Airlines are definitely better than ours, but we have the greatest Military in the world which is where 99% of those guys get their training. I'm not buying Asian pilots are better than ours.

Anyone thought of the Back to the Future theory, and this plane is stuck back in 1955?

Considering that the 777 has zero history of crashing due to mechanical failure, and this particular aircraft was inspected just 10 days ago, and that airliners mostly crash during takeoff or landing and almost never at cruise altitude, and the pilot had 18,000 hours and a HUGE flight sim rig in his own house, and was a fan of Richard Dawkins and not a Muslim despite his name, and the flight had two persons on it using stolen passports/identities... I say terrorism. The two with the stolen passports tried to hijack it and fly it into a building in a Chinese city but the other passengers fought them and the plane crashed in the process.

You have maybe the world's best aircraft, in certified perfect condition, with an ace pilot, at an altitude where it's practically invulnerable and the only weird variable is two people aboard hiding their true identities... this isn't hard.

Wouldn't the pilot's have reported the disturbance or made a distress call if the plane was trying to be hijacked? Unless it was some swift job where hijackers were able to gain access to the cockpit very quick.

Also, coincidence that you post right after the BTTF reference?

Hahaha funny coincidence!

Good point... perhaps they were swift and had a knife to his throat before he could place a distress call.

Were the pilots of any of the 9/11 jets able to make a distress call? I honestly don't know.

This whole thing screams Lockerbie. No way does a plane just disappear and stop communicating unless there was a sudden catastrophe, which seems like a bomb.

Of course morons on reddit and other sites are attacking anyone who suspects this of being terrorism.

I was thinking mechanical or pilot error, but two unrelated people who aren't on the flight when they were on the manifest? Terrorism right? But one would think a terrorist would make a bigger statement. Maybe hijack the plane and crash into a populated area. Unless the plane crashed during them being fought off.

It's nearly impossible to get into a cockpit these days, and even if you try, you will get your arse kicked by the 15 passengers nearest to you.

Well luckily the NTSB will be involved due to it being an American made plane. The bomb theory should come out pretty quickly too due to the typical distribution of debris (or lack thereof) associated with an inflight breakup

A plane coming down while originally at cruising altitude seems like pilot error or terrorism.

Under the ICAO, they will. Boeing also most likely had a team there immediately.

I stay away from reddit for just that reason. It's a group-think circle-jerk.

If I was a frequent traveler I'd prefer terrorism over a plane malfunction.

No kidding. The thought of a plane coming apart at 35,000 feet freaks me out.

Your odds of dying in any terrorist incident or plane crash for that matter are infinitesimal compared to even driving down to the local Circle K. They have to play it up to justify spending all of the taxpayer money on terrorist prevention.

The wreckage found in the South China sea was a false rumor per senior official. They have found an oil sheen off the Vietnam coast but still no sign of wreckage. Were they dumping fuel??

Unconfirmed rumor of the Captain being a closet furry and having been recently outed on TD is circulating inside Boeing.

Don't planes have tracking devices on them or something? [Genuine question.] How does a plane simply disappear? Even if it blew up or crashed, wouldn't they know the last known location before explosion/crash/terrorist/whatever?
