Who gives a shite. If idiots are willing to pay that much money to live in a concrete, crime ridden hell hole, so be it. Not a chance in hell I’m spending $60,000 a year to rent an apartment anywhere

And those people make a ton of money to afford it. But then you get average joes on Reddit complaining about the rents being insane and trying to afford to live in Manhattan and saying they deserve affordable rent wherever they want to live

To each his own. I live by myself, don't care to have a lot of money tied up in space I won't use.

Look at the rest of the table. Finance at $12k+ on average. IT at 4.3k and the rest of the sectors are around 2-3k.

Keyword is average. Quick Google search for median Manhattan salaries shows a much lower #. A google seach on average finance salaries show Finance analysts start at 80k, managers at 160k/yr.

So what does that tell you? Goldman execs and the like making millions per year are weighting that average up. For the rest of NYC manhattan is 40-60% of their gross income just for rent. It's why shitholes like the Bronx and Queens exist.

I'd pay it for 6 months - 1 year to see what its like.

It's one of the greatest cities to exist in human history. It might suck, but as far as this world matters, you're sharing an experience with millions of other people.

Babylon
Jericho
Rome
Constantinople
New York City

You'll never get the experience of living there through the roaring '20s, sure, but I bet it's still something worth experiencing.

More billionaires per square foot vs anywhere in the US and the data may be skewered just a little. It’s the most crime occurs in red state stat.

This is one of the bigger reasons I'm wanting to buy a house sooner than later. It doesn't take a genius to see that housing is getting out of control, and with PE getting involved in Single Family, the government is going to create some sort of rental payment plans to move "underprivileged" into housing, screwing the market up beyond belief.

People are leaving the big city, moving to the 'burbs and the old people in the 'burbs are selling their homes for $M's and moving FL and buying with cash. I thought the market was going down here, but a house 5 doors down just sold for $1.1M. Not a gated community, no amenities.

With all of the remote jobs and crime in big cities, why would you choose to live in a place where your life is at risk?
