NOLA Sheriff Susan Hutson confirms re-election bid

Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson said she will seek re-election despite low approval ratings and criticism following May’s high-profile jail escape, which saw 10 inmates break out. Nine have been recaptured while one, Derrick Groves, remains at large.
According to NOLA.com, Hutson confirmed Wednesday she would officially qualify before the end of the week and has planned a Thursday night event at Addis NOLA on Bayou Road to re-launch her campaign.
The sheriff had previously suspended campaigning after the jailbreak, and it wasn't clear if it was permanent or temporary.
Meanwhile, three challengers have filed to run: former NOPD interim chief Michelle Woodfork, former OPSO deputy and Algiers constable Edwin Shorty, and Ernest Lee. Retired Criminal District Court Judge Julian Parker is expected to file Thursday.
Woodfork is viewed as the early frontrunner with a polling lead and a fundraising advantage, our partners reported. She’s called for a change in jail leadership, arguing long-standing problems predate the May escape and should have been addressed.

I mean they’ve both been in their respective positions for a while. Kirkpatrick has been alright. Hutson has been downright awful.
