Any elaboration as to why it was ruled unconstitutional?

That's just the Supreme Court though right? In NY, the Supreme Court isn't the highest court.

The state of New York is finally coming out of the stone age, that backwards repressive shithole restricting liberty against it's disenfranchised subjects may finally become a free and open progressive society like Mississippi.

FWIW, in New York, the New York Supreme Court is not the state's highest court.

It bypassed the lawmaking powers of the legislature. It was a law that was unlawfully enacted by an Executive branch state agency, "and therefore void and unenforceable.” Neither the governor nor the state health commissioner had the authority to enact the mandate without the state Legislature, since the governor no longer has emergency powers.

Yea, this is basically the trial court. This will go to an appellate court and then the final appeals court in NYC. The NY court setup is confusing because the Supreme Court has both trial and appellate, then the appeals court -- the one you see in Law & Order -- is actually the highest court.

The second they file for appeal, they will issue a stay and the mandate will be back in place until the appellate court makes a ruling.

ETA: I was wrong. The Law & Order building is the appellate court in NYC. The Court of Appeals is in Albany.
