Well aint that something

U.S. hospitalization data also show not only that higher Delta prevalence doesn’t go hand in hand with higher hospitalization rates; these numbers appear inversely correlated—that is, places that had higher percentages of the Delta variant had lower ratios of hospitalized people to Covid cases. Whatever else we know or don’t know about Delta, its prevalence clearly isn’t driving hospitalizations.

This is going to put a kink in JBE’s press conference tomorrow.

Probably because all viruses follow the same line, more infectious equals less deadly.

There have been some mother frickers that got both more deadly and more infectious
The first round of spanish flu wasnt that bad. The variant was a mother fricker that killed the young with a vengeance though

Haven’t we known about this? I mean the doomers freak the frick out about it but these are the morons still wearing masks outside after being vaccinated.
The only problem with delta is it’s more contagious.

What we know about Delta are the unvaccinated are the ones in the hospital.

JBE will not be bullied! Masks back on for the sheep. 50% capacity!

Anyone paying attention to this knew this long before WSJ and their Ilk decided they couldn't ignore it anymore.

He’s still correct that viruses evolve to be less deadly in a normal evolution. Viruses don’t want to kill their host, and most evolve to not do so over time.

But he didnt say that at all

Was reading an article the other day interviewing a virologist or immunologist and she was very matter of fact with little political slant explaining in laymen’s terms what we’re seeing with covid. The biggest thing I took away was her quote stating mutations favor transmission. Sometimes it can be more severe but typically it’s not because the more severe it gets, transmission is inversely impacted due to the virus destroying its hist before it can spread significantly.

I would be interested to see that data adjusted for age groups. I feel like it is no worse, nor any better as far as SARS-CoV-2 virulence goes, but the people left to infect (ie those who have not taken the vaccine(s)) trend younger, thus generally less likely from that standpoint to be hospitalized and or have more severe course of illness.
I personally am seeing some very bad cases in younger individuals (bulk of my patient base = younger and healthier) at what seems like higher rates (may be recency bias) than last year, and I don't think that is because of more virulent strain(s), but rather people are less careful and there is more opportunity to become infected amongst unvaccinated individuals.
I am certainly not advocating for re-institution of mask mandates, but I'm convinced the only real way out of this is boosting vaccination numbers.
