He's always been whatever was politically expedient and would get the Democrats in power. He pushes the progressive talking points now and is all onboard the crazy train. He's just more passenger now than conductor.

He’s a democratic strategist. He is whatever gets the most Democrats elected. Also, his wife is a republican strategist, so maybe she wanted to move away from Louisiana’s blue state into a red state. And, he’s in the process of buying a home in New Orleans, so he’s not abandoning the city.
Louisiana is too blue for him not to love right now.
