Speaking of New Iberia, I was there two days ago to buy a car. What is the concrete they are pouring in the median on i-10? Starts after Jennings and all the way east. It switches from side to side every few miles. Looks like a damn sidewalk in the middle of interstate median.

What exactly are we looking at here? Obviously it’s a smoking apparatus of some sort, but of what?

More correctly, the sidewalk is called a “Mow Strip”.

The receiver bases for the barrier uprights are spaced like every 20 feet and then there’s the terminal ends for each section of cable runs that are substantial (but underground so not casually visible).

I guess that also helps the lazy fricks at DOTD with mowing so they don’t have to weed eater the columns and supports.

It is not like La DOTD to keep up with mowing.

The Louisiana DOTD lets Highway R-O-W Maintenance out for public bid annually.

Mississippi’s DOT maintains their’s in-house.

Louisiana saves a bunch of money vs Mississippi by taking care of it via low bidder.

And the low bidder doesn't actually do the work. Win Win
