We have a new guy at work that has a new sports and honestly he probably couldn't change a flat tire....he also probably doesn't have the money to pay someone to change a flat for him.

Looked a purchasing a 2025 Honda Accord or Camry. The Accord did not have a spare. The salesman said that HVE's don't have spares because the batteries are where the spare use to be. Well BS the Camry XLE does have a spare and that's what I bought. Retired and travel quite a bit. No way not traveling without a spare. Had and Accord but the Camry rides much better!

I can’t remember the last time I’ve had a spare tire. I think tires are just a lot better now.

Corvettes haven’t come with a spare since ‘97. Some 94’s did not as well.

Yeah I don't understand not having a spare (well I get that it saves the car manufacturers money) but how this has been able to be a thing is crazy.

CAFE standards. Is that why my new Mazda SEEMS to try to shift into 6th gear at about 35 mph?? All about lowering the RPM to absolute min, I guess.

2025 4runner has a full size spare,

I think my 08 van had a donut- when we needed it, damn thing was flat too. Took a month or more in late 2021 to get new tires.

In the last 6 years I’ve had a flat tire 5 hours away from home at a Houston hotel, 3 hours away on Mobile for work, and on top of a mountain in Colorado with no cell signal.

It is beyond stupid to buy or drive a vehicle without a spare tire.

Buy an Audi, they come with run flats....

Side note: My Grandfather bought my grandmother an '84 Fleetwood Caddy that came with a donut spare at McElwain Cadillac in Metairie. Before he left the dealership he noticed the spare they put in it and was pissed. He told the sales guy to take it back if he didn't have a full size spare put in it right now.

Mick McElwain himself came out apologizing being that my grandfather was a returning valued customer... It was like the 6th Caddy they owned.

Lots of BMW's have ride flat tires. so there is less need of a spare.

My last two sedans, Ford Fusion and Honda Accord, didn't have spares.

It's annoying.

How do the run flats ride? Good riding tires?

Like regular tires, top speed is 50mph at a distance no longer than 50 miles though.

So you're older, and you made a decision on a car because of $100 donut that you probably can't put on (soon, if not now) without help, instead of a can of fix a flat or a AAA subscription. Or the roadside service that probably comes gratis with both vehicles for a few years.

Ok then.

He drives a Camero and doesn't have an air pump in his car. What makes you think he knows how to change a tire?

I have a BMW 440i with run flats. They can go 50 miles on a flat. The car tells you when flat since you cant tell by looking. The sidewalls are stiff to protect the rims when driving flat. Problem is the tires are expensive and cannot be patched. Flat tire = new tire. Luckily I have a tire warranty that covers it.

Can you imagine driving in the 20's or 30's where you were more likely than not to have a flat on any long trip. The nicer 20's and 30's cars would have two spares, usually on side mounts (see 32 Buick below).

You have to also watch for left hand lug nuts. My 69 Chrysler has left hand lug nuts on one side, as does my 45 Jeep.
