Guy called in at work the other day due to having a flat tire. Said new Camaro didn’t have a spare tire. Came with an air pump. This has got to be the craziest thing I’ve ever heard of…

I remember this with a coworker's Mustang like 10 years ago. It came with a tire repair kit. Screw that.

As of 2020 only 50% of new cars come with a spare tire. It's something you should definitely consider when buying new and used these days.

Common in sports cars... New 911s and Corvettes do not come with spares...

It’s becoming more common. You get incremental savings on MPG to satisfy CAFE standards. This world is a big top circus tent.

I haven't changed a tire on the roadside since the advent of the cell phone and AAA. But I want to know its there in case I decide to.

It is. Or let’s say standard protocol, as I wouldn’t call it “normal”.

Looking for vehicles for my kids, I have to double check to make sure it comes with a spare tire. I’ve been told something about EPA regulations so it’s less weight to pull.

I've plugged my last two flats and drove to discount tire for that free patch job.

Even if you didn't buy from them they do this.

Thanks Obama (no really)

They just have to keep shedding weight to meet the fuel standards imposed

It’s that May with most sports cars. Neither my Camaro or Mustang had a spare tire.

It's becoming more normal. The auto manufacturer saves money on the tire and then they less weight saves them .1 MPG which they spread over the fleet so they can meat CAFE standards (they have to increase fuel efficiency by 8% between 2024-2025).

You can normally buy a spare as an add on, and by them charging separately for it then they are required to include it as part of their CAFE, so it's a win/win for them.

Also, you wouldn't believe how many people nowadays don't even know how to change a tire anyway and would have to call roadside assistance.

It’s common now. They come with “run flat” tires. Really it’s just a way to game the government emissions requirements. No tire=less weight. Thank the government ant it’s environmental BS.

Looked at new Acura MDX about 5 years ago. No spare but they included a can of Fix-A-Flat.

We opted for the Lexus.

Very common. My elderly parents would lug around a full size spare on a Chrysler minivan afraid of getting a flat. Put 150,000 miles on it and never got a flat but lifted that spare in and out their garage for years

My work van doesnt have one either. Its a 2023 but my previous 2020 version didnt either.
