WTF. Dealerships advertise dealer sticker price and internet specials then you get there and the cars are 5 to 7k more in price. Because thats what the dealership needs to keep the lights on. Somewhat sounds like price gouging. My wifes car was rear ended (no photos) and totaled after the check from insurance we are still upside down by 20K plus. Then we show up to look at car thinking we would pay sticker and the salesman slip in the additional 7k and I went ballistic....Would not even test drive the car. Am I wrong.

It’s a bait and switch sales tactic, not price gouging.

How are you upside down over $20k after getting the insurance check?

No you are not wrong, but this has been going on for months.
There is a computer chip shortage for vehicles which leads to a shortage of new cars.
Whenever there is a shortage of a product the seller can dictate price.

You are in a bad spot unfortunately.

I just bought a new car. Didn't need one, but wanted one. I made that clear upfront. They started off trying to gouge me, so I said peace out. It was right at the end of the month so it didn't take them long to come down to the sticker price, which is not a great deal, but given the market, I was OK with it.

There is probably one car of each model that they'll sale for MSRP. That way they are technically not lying about it. However, its always the orange or lime green painted car that you always wonder WTF was the manufacturer thinking.

had to buy a vehicle to replace an old sales vehicle in columbus OH....had to call 15 dealerships to find one. Actually had 3 get taken while we were working on ppwk because they wont take deposits once they hit the lot.

Paid 40k for a small suv that I bought for 26k 18 months ago.

dont trust the internet page inventory, borderline bait and switch

eta - did you put down 100.00 on your wifes car when you bought it and use 96 months financing?

If I had to guess insurance cut him a check for actual cash value and him trying to buy the same model either new or used (thanks Biden) is not the same.

This is virtually impossible in this market.

I just bought a new truck and paid sticker. All the prices I saw online were the same as they were on the lot. I asked them upfront, and they said everything would be sticker.

Still overpriced, but I haven't run into anything terribly misleading.

You don't have to go to a dealership anymore. You can do the whole process online and all the numbers are in black and white. They deliver that bish to your front door.

Frick wasting all that time sitting around and waiting your turn to talk to the finance guy and all the other BS.

I'll cut my foot off before I step on a lot again.

I voiced this exact concern like 6 months ago, and true to form the wet-behind-the-ear mouth breathers of the OT downvoted me into oblivion saying I had no clue what I'm talking about. Looks like some folks like OP are finally getting their head on a swivel and waking up to the new norm aka clown world.

Manufacturers are admonishing dealers for this, but not sure it's working. Keep looking, try other dealers, try online.

F paying over sticker.
