Half of Americans have become “quaristas” during 2020, according to new research.

A survey of 2,000 coffee drinkers revealed 49 percent of respondents have become at-home baristas during quarantine, using their time inside to develop their coffee-making skills.

Two-thirds (66 percent) of those have so much faith in their newfound talent, they plan to continue using their barista knowledge to make coffee in their own kitchen — even once the pandemic is over.

Seventy-six percent of respondents spent time perfecting their coffee drink of choice during quarantine — and, of those, the average respondent spent two hours and 10 minutes on the endeavor.

What were they working on? Results revealed 57 percent of respondents picked up a new coffee-related skill and of those, 18 percent learned how to make iced coffee.

And in the process, many found iced coffee was harder to make at home than hot coffee (38 percent vs. 19 percent).

The pastries will keep them in business.

A low-fat gluten free all natural nut free non gmo dairy-free scone just hits better in a coffee shop.

I hit the coffee shop for the convenience of it and to look at milfs in yoga pantses.

Our Mr. Coffee with a timer treats us just fine during the week before work.

On weekends I'll do a french press with freshly ground beans.

The proliferation of coffee shops with outrageous prices has always surprised me.

I bought a delonghi unit last year.

Grinds & brews espresso or full cups. I guess that makes me a barista!

I don’t understand this. I make iced coffee all the time and I feel like it tastes better than coffee shop bought. I make it hot add cream and sugar then add ice. What’s so difficult?

Why is there a specific name for someone who makes coffee? What about someone who makes hamburgers, snowballs, sandwiches, milk shakes, etc?

No they didn’t. They said they’re going to the
coffee shop after smoking a bong of sativa. But they were all wearing masks so their words got misinterpreted.

Starbucks coffee fricking blows. Never understood the obsession. It tastes burnt.

I love a great cup of coffee like the next guy (french press at home), but Starbucks ain't it.

Most near me still have lines out into the street. And Dunkin Donuts/Tim Horton's seem to be humming along. Maybe some local joints that rely on foot traffic have been hurt.

Coffee shops are for being social, meeting people, and for a change of scenery while working/studying.
